So I filed for a permit for a standard wooden privacy fence in Jefferson Parish. The permit got “accepted” a few days before the job was schedule for the 18th. The job was completed on the 18th. The next day I get an email saying I owe $56 for the permit I thought I already had gotten accepted for. Now, the job is completed and I’m not sure what my next step should be. I don’t mind paying the fee, I just don’t want a huge fine for doing construction without a permit. Can I cancel the permit at this point since everything is done? Any advice is helpful, thank you.

Pay it, they most likely won't even know the fence is complete.

When I closed my fence permit no one came out to see if it was done. I just had to pay the fee and the permit was closed later that day.

How much was this per foot. Looking to get a wooden fence in Jefferson myself.

It was 170 feet of fence. The permit was $56, and the total for the job was was $3,860. I went with Impact Fence & Deck, they were great.

You are supposed to get a permit if you change out your mailbox.

The city is always looking for ways to make a couple bucks off you.

Impact Fence and Deck. Alex was the main guy, very professional. Scott and another guy did the job in 5 hours. Very happy with it.

Absolute bullshite that you need a permit to build a fence. If you don’t live in it and it isn’t hooked to a public utility it shouldn’t require “permission” from the government to build it.

Totally agree. I moved into my current house 5 years ago, and had to get a permit for my fence bc I was alerted by one of my neighbors that we had a nosy neighbor that calls code enforcement on everybody. Sure enough, the parish came by to inspect not long after it was finished. It sucked bc we couldn’t build a 90° angle in one corner due to it being next to my driveway—-per the code.

2 guys did 170 ft of fence in 5 hours? I think you are mistaken.

Pay it. Its is a $300 fine otherwise.
As someone who said "f it" on the fence permit in JP. I recommend paying the small fee vs the fine.

The JP bureaucrats are petty frickers

I’m serious, they showed up at 7am on the dot. We did the walk through for like 10 minutes, they packed up the truck at 12:30
