For those who did it. What has your experience having a professional company do your garage floors? Has it lasted? Cost per sq ft. There are a number of companies doing this. Looking for usable information.

I grabbed the kit from Home Depot and did it myself and that’s been about three years ago and it’s holding up good. Does not have that professional glossy shine but serves its purpose, think the kit was around $130.

My buddy just got quoted $40/ft to have it done professionally.
ETA my math was off, it was $4 and some change.

It holds up very well but over time the portions exposed to sunlight will turn an uglier sort of yellowish brown color. It annoys me only because I’m OCD about strange things.

I used the kit from Home Depot, worked fine and has held up.

Your going to be quoted anywhere from 25-50/ ft.
Honestly do your research. If you are a DIY oriented person you can do a 20x20 garage in a day for about 2k and it looks like you paid some one to do it.
Checkout "Shop Nation" on YouTube. He has a really good step by step video along with a comparison of a couple products.

s off the chart.

Bought the kit from Home Depot and did an enclosed carport game room. It came out fine and seems to be holding up a year later.
My issue was being able to fully clean the floor in an already-finished room. Water was out of the question, so I ended up running a wire wheel over everything and then mopping over and over.
The coverage area listed on the box was pretty accurate. I was just under the square footage and bought an extra kit to be safe. Ended up using exactly however much they said I needed.
I did buy extra metal flakes and put those down liberally. A lot of them flaked off during the first couple of weeks. I guess that’s normal but it took me by surprise.

I did it in 2021. Has held up well after a second coat. First coat was sucked up by 6mo old concrete. However, we painted to joint in concrete instead of where door stops and the sun is fading it pretty good for that small area. Couple tips, cleaning and prep work is key, buy extra flakes and spread liberally. Like fill a 5 gal bucket and go crazy spreading them. I didn’t buy extra and wish I had.

Go to the Garage Journal forum, they have an entire sub-forum dedicated to flooring. Especially if you are interested in DIYing a floor coating of higher quality than you can buy at a big box store the place is a trove of information. They also offer a lot of insight into pro installation and big box epoxy floors as well. Depending on your wants/needs and budget you may find something like RaceDeck fits your needs better. Companies also announce their sales there sometimes too.
ETA while it may be obvious preparation is a MASSIVE part of success for any type of floor coating, do NOT skimp on time and materials for this step!

I used the rocksolid kit, and it has held up well for over a year now.

Most of the companies that do this typically use better quality products that what you would find at Home Depot or Lowes.
Most professional installers will use an epoxy or polyaspartic base coat with full flake and then polyaspartic clear coat
I recently installed a similar system from Versatile Building Products at my new house and have been very happy with it so far
LINK
At my previous house, I used Rustoleum “Professional” epoxy (with a solvent base) and went over it with a clear coat epoxy from Rustoleum and it held up pretty well . I put it down in 2016 and in 2022 when I sold my house it was still in good shape. The product I used at my new house was much better quality IMO

Ninja did my 2 car a couple of years ago, I want to say it was $3500. We got a few other quotes that were around $1k cheaper but glad we went with Ninja. Today it looks exactly like the day they installed it. Had a few small oil leaks and you can wipe it up with a paper towel, doesn’t even come close to soaking in.
As someone said, it’s all about the prep work. They used some serious machinery for prep. And they use a shite ton of the flakes, there’s not a spot in my garage uncovered. Haven’t seen any come up yet.

Used kits from Sears in 2007 in a 2 bay shop and it's fine.
Did prep scrubbing it twice with TSP and a stiff push broom.
Did a 2 foot border in dark grey and the rest of the floor in lighter grey without using sprinkles.

This seems way off. I think it's more like $7-$10/SF.

It is, i must have missed a 0 in backing into the $/ft.
It should be $4.

How are these different coatings when wet? We slipping and sliding or is there some grip?

Full flake that you see in professionals jobs will provide good grip. You can also add silica to the clear coat to provide extra traction

Do you find that your garage stays cleaner/less dusty with a coated floor?
