Echo PE-225 Edger Won't Crank (Honda self-propelled Question as well)

Tried to find a similar post on here because I know we've had them but couldn't find one.
Have a Echo PE 225 (same motor as the SRM 225 weedeater) that won't crank.
First thing I did was a new spark plug. Nothing.
Then took the spark arrestor off. Nothing.
Next a new air filter and fuel filter. Nothing.
Was hoping to avoid cleaning the carb but went ahead and bought a carb kit and cleaned the carb out. Actually worse than before because it doesn't even seem like it wants to fire over now.
Didn't realize you could buy an entire carberator off ebay for $10. Should have just done that from the beginning I guess. Anything else I might need to try?
TIA
Since I have your attention, might as well ask you a question about my Honda hrx217 self propelled. Really only use it just to bag the first couple cuts of the season before going to the zero turn. It pull starts fine so I never really cared about replacing the battery to electric start it. Not worth paying $130 for the new battery. I feel dumb even asking this question but pictured is the battery it takes. Haven't opened it up to look at the battery but are there +/- terminals on these to do a trickle charge? Such a dumb question. I've just never seen one of these batteries.

I have a $10 carb on mine, I bought it thinking I was going to fix the OEM one when the cheap one gave out but years later it's still running fine.

Good to know. Probably order one just to have even if I get it running since it can go in my weedeater too.

Not that I know unless I messed something up after tinkering with it. Need to check the kill switch I guess. Bought a new plug but didn't test for spark.
The choke lever boke in half but I can still move it up and down

got to go to basics air, fuel, spark and compression.
One of those is missing. test easy stuff first remove spark plug and ground on bare metal can you see or feel spark?
Squirt some carb cleaner into engine, will it start?
when you pull the recoil and put your thumb over spark plug hole with spark plug removed can you feel compression.

Will be trying all of those when I get home

Make sure when you remove the bowl after cleaning the carb there's gas in it. Sounds like it could be a gas line issue, I've had junk in my gas lines and I've also had them go bad. They are fairly cheap hose.
But as said try to spray the carb cleaner and go from there.
I also have had the pull start mechanics break on me multiple times. Does it have resistance when you try to pull it?

Carb and coil. Both from Amazon for cheap. They last me about a year. The OEM might last 2years but costs significantly more.
I should just keep a spare on hand and replace every spring

One thing I'll add to this excellent post is if one of these suggestions don't lead you to a solution your exhaust ports may be clogged. Most trimmers have a little screen at the muffler entrance that gets stopped up from soot.
Pull your muffler off, if it's starts that's the culprit.

Those $10 carbs are a hit or miss... The two I have purchased, for separate machines, have been misses... I would pump the primer bulb like 10-14 times to make sure you are getting fuel in there.. Do the spark plug test just to be sure... I have both Echo weed eater and blower for 17 years and when those finally go I am going with the electric stuff...
