Does dollarweed stop growing in the winter? It is taking over my lawn. I have been treating it with a granule but it has been tough to control and I was hoping it does back in cooler weather.

Yes to a extent but it’s a perennial weed so it will come back. If it is taking over your yard you not using the proper herbicide. Spray it now with MSM Turf (metsulfuron methyl) with surfactant (spreader sticker) added to the solution, 1/8 teaspoon MSM + 2 teaspoon of surfactant per gallon of water sprayed over 1000 sq ft of lawn. Repeat on a warm day in 3 weeks or so. Resume in late winter/early spring.

Is it ok to spot treat with the MSM turf, or should you treat the entire yard?

I have a pretty large vegetable garden in my back yard and I'm constantly fighting various invasive weeds over the years I've been growing vegetables.
First it was the local nut grass and bush killer vine, then dollar weed, now it's oxalis, purslane and a tree-like weed that looks a bit like a mini mimosa tree.
The oxalis is particularly vile with the way it grows and spreads underground and no amount of spraying between plantings, tilling, hoeing, hand weeding, etc. has any impact on it.

If it makes a pink flower like a mimosa tree then it is mimosa weed.

Not at all - you can use MSM Turf all summer and into early fall. Be sure to add 2 teaspoon of surfactant/spreader-sticker per gallon of spray solution, important for waxy leaf plants like dollarweed, and be patient - as a systemic herbicide it takes a few weeks to see the results.

Thanks crawdude. I put down some Lesco Weed & Feed for St. Augustine even though I know W&F is a mortal no-no. We recently moved into a house with 1 acre and I don't have a motorized backpack sprayer (yet) to spray the entire property so I figured something was better than nothing. It killed the clover but the dollarweed wasn't fazed. I probably have every weed on the planet in my yard. Ugh.........I'll also need to use some type of marker when I spray. Would I be better off using the Clegg's cocktail or is it too late for that?

Well W&F really isn’t a mortal no-no, it’s just a very limited window of time when you get both the max benefit of both the herbicide and fertilizer when applying the product, and that window closes fast. Sounds to me you applied the W&F in that window. But as you are learning no single selective herbicide kills all weeds.
I’d just use the MSM Turf going forward through the summer and maybe into early fall. Now if you had some opened bottles of Weed-Free-Zone and Atrazine (=cocktail) that you wanted to use up, the weather is going to be cool enough in the BR area for the next week or so to use it, but I wouldn’t buy those products now - use that $ on MSM.

I don’t know in the NOLA area but you can purchase it on Amazon. SiteOne as mentioned but at the BR Site One they only sell 8 oz bottles - you only need a 2 oz bottle for a avg size residential yard. Woener Sod may carry it if you have one in your area. Also try “feed & seed” stores, or some of the larger independent retail garden centers that sell lawn chemicals.

the best chemical is not allowed in Louisiana Battleship II but you need to get out the rake and start pulling it
