need to replace all outlets and switches in a house. close to 30 receptacles and what seems like a thousand 3 way light switches. is home depot the best bet or is their some cheap alternative on the interwebs for this stuff?

About to do this also. Was curious of the same thing. I know at Lowe’s if you buy over certain amount you’ll get a small discount. It’s normally marked on the price tag on the shelf.

If your fast, but not a pro you can change one in about 10 minutes.

109 outlets would take about 18 solid hours of work. I'd say about 3 days with breaks and stuff.

Up to you.

I believe you can buy in bulk from home depot, but I would check amazon too.

I'd say it took a solid 10 hours over the course of 2 days. you definitely get faster as you go.. $400 doesnt sound too bad lol

I price shopped the Home Depot “Bulk Price” vs Amazon. I found them to have the best prices. For the most part, Home Depot was actually cheaper when it qualified for the Bulk Price.

If once you open it up, everything is as it should be. I once went to change a switch and got all black wires. We used white out to mark what should have been a white wire.

As others have said, compare Amazon with HD bulk pricing. Amazon’s prices flux more so you might find a better deal there, especially on multipacks.

Trying to figure it out, what reason would you need to change all the outlets and not wiring?

Flood?

Could be old, or that almond color. If you’re at the point where you have to replace a certain percentage of them, you might as well do them all

Once you get in a rhythm, you can knock that down to under 5 minutes

i love the leviton paddles from home depot; very inexpensive. i've replaced a billion.

lowes has backlit paddles for not much more than the levitons from home depot and i added a couple of those in dark areas.

for outlets i opted for 15A style because i liked the looks better and *definitely* go with the oversized UNBREAKABLE faceplates because i found very quickly many of my existing outlets had shitty cutouts and i could not line the new plates up perfectly and the oversized plates worked every time.

for a cleaner look i paid a couple bucks for the no-screw-showing plates for the lights (not the outlets) and i'm very pleased.

See if Home Depot will let you sign up for a pro account and they will price match just about anybody.

home depot sells the 10 packs of the basic outlets and switches

pretty sure they have 10 packs of the 3 way switches too, just check the website to be sure

the GFI are where you gonna get hurt in the wallet, those things are like $12 each if i remember correctly, maybe more

i would avoid the interwebs, you most likely will end up getting cheap garbage from china that breaks when you plug something into it

PS - why do you need 20a outlets? those are used just for appliances, everything else in the house gets 15a and to be honest the breaker supplying those outlets is most likely just a 15a. i mean bigger is always better but even a space heater wont be puling more ten 8-10 amps max
