Boxwoods question

My boxwoods are looking pretty pathetic these days. I trimmed back lots of dead branches last spring and noticed some area of new growth since.
Is there any sprays that can help bring these damned things back to life? I have considered pulling them all up and starting over, but some are looking very good.

worthless plants. Dig them up and plant something interesting

I bought the house with them already planted
I did pull up a lot of them two years ago and just left the area bare under some trees.
The kicker is, we will be building a new house within the year and I am not sure what I want to do with the flower beds because they look pretty pathetic with these bare spots.

Pull that junk up go back with soft touch Holley. You will be extremely happy

Likely boxwood dieback or root rot - not uncommon boxwood problems.
Boxwood Diseases - LSU AgCenter
You can send samples to the Plant Diagnostic Lab for ID - you being a physician know how this works. But often an email to Dr. Singh with details and good photos may be enough for him to diagnose the issue without samples.
But you may be looking at replacement with something other than boxwoods.

That’s what I have instead of boxwoods and was worried about my plants until I pruned them about 2 weeks ago. It’s amazing how much growth I have gotten since!!

Just yanked out about two dozen of them. Tired of dealing with it.

How easy is it to square up soft touch Holley, and how tall will it get.
Wife went with boxwoods 4-5 years ago. 2-3 years ago we started noticing the rot and lost 1/2 of the boxwoods on one side, and only 1 on the other. With that said, they never fully grew in as we were expecting.

Just as easy and the boxwoods.
The soft touch get to 2-4 feet tall. We love them and recommend them often

I am in the same boat with boxwoods. Planted them about 5 years ago. Never really took off like we wanted. Now about half have disease. About ready to pull them up.
Have you heard about dwarf yaupon?

Those are also a good option. They do great and look good also. I personally just like the soft touch

We actually had some planted in place of the boxwoods a couple of years back. Ours didn't do well. Ended up pulling them too.

Rip them out and plant distylium. Indestructible and can easily be hedged. Better color than boxwood too.

I’m convinced that boxwoods don’t ever actually grow

Boxwood blight is real and a pain in the arse.

I did this. Swapped boxwoods (which were a major PIA) with swing-low distyliums. Other than the pain that is keeping the distyliums out of my walkway, they have been maintenance free. I'll take hedging them once every 2 months over all the diseases that boxwoods get any day of the week though. Not sure why people still buy boxwoods. They're awful.
