Recently moved into a house that has a small body of water behind the fence line. Needless to say, the mosquitos come out in the evening when I’m out on my back porch.

What’s the best way to keep them away?

I was thinking some sort of scent candle or tiki torch. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Screen in your porch. Short of that, lots of Deet, citronella candles, bug zappers or a few friends that attract them more than you do.

I'm one of those unfortunate bastards that seem to be a magnet for mosquitoes. I could have 10 people on my back porch and I'm the one getting eaten up.

I have the thermacell patio shield. I just have to turn it on 10-15 minutes before going outside and it works like a champ. They have some that look like lanterns and others that are tiki torch types.

Since you have water, look into the Spartan mosquito eradicator. I’ve heard good things about it.

2nd a backpack fogger. I couldn't go outside at dusk without having one to spray every month.

Bifen XTS and a fan. I know from experience. Moving air is the best repellent but Bifen will make a huge difference.

those work pretty good unless you have a bunch of wetlands around your house. Couple the Spartan and spray the yard,up the trees and everything with Talstar spray and he will see a drastic improvement.

Permethrin. Spray your carport, back porch, a few feet into your yard if you want, and you will not have mosquitoes. Kills ants too.

I have dogs that roam around the backyard. Is this safe to use around them?

bifen XTS! My backyard is basically woods....I used to get eaten alive, and would be smacked every 3 seconds by a beetle or moth or anything else....been using Bifen XTS for awhile and while there is still the occasional mosquito or bug it's usually a good while of sitting on my patio at night before I even notice one

I put 2 Spartan's out in April and haven't gotten a single bite. Time to get a new box.

They spray premethrin directly on livestock to keep flies away. its also one of the main ingredients in flea and tick treatment for dogs and cats.

I treat all my backpacking gear and clothes with it

My smallish backyard slopes down to a boggy bayou covered in hyacinth. What all I do I spray? The whole thing? Just down by the water? During the day, there is no sign of a mosquito anywhere near the house-just down in the shade by the bayou.

I spray Talstar on my yard and everything except flowering plants. The bugs like to congregate in vegetation the most. make sure you are getting the undersides. That where a fogger does the best

Be careful with cats.
Cats are highly sensitive to permethrin and are much more likely to develop signs of toxicity than dogs.
