The service techs they send out aren't worth AF. They did offer the same amount of $$ in parts so we did that and it worked out.
We discontinued after that. Not worth it

Nope. Took months (3-4) and several failed repair attempts (9-10) before they agreed to replace our refrigerator. Some of the "repair technicians" they sent out were comical. Once they finally agreed to replace it, what they were willing to give us wasn't near the same quality as the fridge we had.

I agree with this poster. Also OP, each time you want to make a service call against your warranty, it's a $75 charge.
So this guy spent $675-$750 + his warranty premium ($800-$1200) to get a new fridge. Plus the headache of dealing with the contractors they select for you (cheapest of the cheap).

My friend waited three weeks to the a/c to be fixed. Had to buy window units to get by. Not much of a savings

frick no. My A/C went out in August after buying a new home. I recall it was 103 degrees and I had a new born baby. those frickers wanted to wait 5 days before sending out a tech. I had my own come out and they refused to reimburse me.

All home warranties are scams

Worth it for me, but this is true

It isn’t worth a shite.
I was “gifted” it when we bought our house. Wish I would have said, “how about you just give me half the cash it cost for that crap and we pretend those scammers don’t exists and we don’t use it”.
I saved about $200 to replace my evaporator through that warranty, but then I had to fix my ceiling that collapsed due to a leak in the drain line they didn’t tighten b/c they use shitty cheap companies to do repair work, and they refused to fix my ceiling.

Old Republic has been pretty decent. Every call out I’ve had has at most been two days. Typically they call within an hour and set up a time to come the very next day.

One word of advise....NO. This from someone who had them. Went four weeks without a water heater because they said no parts for the broken one were available. I made one phone call and found the part.

I know there are a lot of bad experiences already posted, but mine was ok. Negotiated coverage as a part of an older home’s purchase. A/c compressor failed in the 1st year, and their contractor replaced it (same day) with a new compressor that was a higher SEER rating than the legacy unit. (required min. rating increased). Saved us a few thousand and then I cancelled after that year.
I don’t think it makes much sense outside that pretty narrow scenario.

They couldnt figure out how to the fix our dryer. Never ordered the correct parts. I got tired of taking off work to come babysit their incompetent personnel.

I have a mixed experience with them but their primary concern when you make a claim is cost control. My last two experiences with them made me cancel my policy.
The penultimate experience was with an electrical supply line that fed my shop. That shop is a free standing garage. It was built as a garage by the previous owner with a ramp as part of the slab and one wall with a garage door wide enough for two vehicles. The buried electrical line developed a break. The tech that AHS sent was a reputable electrician and he gave me an estimate of $1,800.00 to run a new line.
When the electrician forwarded the estimate to AHS he called the ship/garage a "shed." So the AHS adjuster called and denied coverage. I read the policy and sent photos of the shop showing that it was a detached garage (which was covered under the policy) and AHS still refused to pay.
About two months later (my last experience with AHS) my A/C went out. It was an old unit. It was during the last week of July. AHS couldn't find a tech to come out for at least two weeks. I got approval to find one myself. The HVAC guy came out and said that I needed a replacement. Based on the previous experience with the shop electrical line, I just told him to give me an estimate and go ahead and do the work.
I sent the estimate to AHS and they offered to send a different tech out. I told them that I needed the A/C repaired, not another opinion. They denied that claim too.
I filed suit in my local City Court. After I sent their attorney the pics of the "shed," they settled by paying for both the A/C and the estimate for the shop electrical line repair.

They turned to shite a couple of years ago when they were bought out.
I don't know why we renewed our contract. Definitely keep it to covering smaller appliances and not the big shite.

I have AHS; filed claim for plumbing. My only compliant was the amount of time it took for service response but it was a Friday. The plumber was able to bill them $1000 towards the cost of the repair (under slab leak) and the homeowners insurance the rest.

No. Home warranty is a scam. Don’t waster your money.
Posted on 8/8/19 at 10:17 pm to doclsu08
Im getting $169 for replacement of a $1200 built in microwave because that the national average for a built in. I have yet to find a decent model for under $400.
Basically the contracts are very heavy in their favor. Choice Home Warranty limits their payout to $1500 per incident.
