This maybe the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Don't learn how to repair your things and how they operate, pay some one else to do it... Because they need to eat too.

You can buy them at Home Depot and Lowes.

I've had luck picking them up from a local Grainger store. Even if they don't have them in stock, they can usually get them pretty quick.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go by ideal today and see if they have one.
Ideal is awesome. I've had to replace two fan motors this year. Saved myself about $1600. The quote to replace a fan motor was $900 for each unit. Frick those guys. took me less than an hour to change the first one.
Once I knew what I was doing, the second took me 30 minutes. For the future, order a couple of fan and compressor capacitors from Amazon to keep around the house.

What do you do for a living ?
When a motor or compressor fails electrically, under warranty, and a called out tech sees that non oem cheap capacitor, he takes a pic and notifies warranty. They then void said warranty.

If it is under warranty, then there should not be charge.
There are some good A/C guys but this conglomeration of smaller companies into maintenance selling franchises has raised prices.
Also, OEM capacitors should be made available to the public.

Imagine this being your logic. If it is under warranty then you can't be ripped off by a tech. If it is not under warranty he can take a picture or write it down. I don't give a frick.

No, dealer techs in that brand, can void that warranty. Same as very dirty condenser coils causing the oil & freon to go acidic and eat the varnish off of the windings. Lack of maintenance set this in motion. Warranty will be voided.
In addition to manuf warranty, home warranties will also refuse to cover if you do not have yearly coil clean and check invoices to prove maintenance.
Since usually those AC companies who are “ not to busy “ are the only ones that will work for the home warranty companies, many times home owners, knowing they need to pay yearly maintenance , will shop around for the cheapest spring tune up. They could wash their own coils, and bubba down the street has a set of gauges, but they need that official invoice.
Good, busy top notch AC companies know this. So they ask if the home owner has a home warranty. If yes, then priority is lowered because they know there is no future work in it.

Most are mexico. There are US made caps, but they do not last any longer than mexico.
Ever since Pcb coolant was banned, caps just don’t last.

Yes they are! I went there today and they were out of my exact capacitor. The guy said it was a dual one. I asked him if there was any way I could get it working. He sold me 2 smaller ones and gave me instructions on how to connect the common terminals together and where to connect the fan and the compressor. Out the door with both for just over 20 bucks. Crimped some spade terminals on to a short piece of wire and connected it all like he said. Flipped the switch and it all came on, working great and blowing cold again! That's the best 20 bucks I ever spent. I have 2 of the correct capacitors on order so I can get my rig job taken out and have a spare. Best thing is my wife and son both think I'm more of a man now. What can't daddy fix! LOL
