Hello everyone, so I'm in the research phase of purchasing a whole home generator. The full install for the 24 KW Generac is 18K. Is this a good price?
TIA

I put in a 22kw generac in august of 2019 for $7200. I'm sure they've gone up but 18k seems insane to me.

This is 100% dependant on your setup. The more wire and gas line they have to run the more it will be. I had my power and gas supply all within 8' of each other and I paid $3K for install and $6200 for the new 24KW Generac (7210). This was 2022.

They have to run about 30 feet of line for gas and 7 feet for power.

My gas and power are on opposite sides of the house but I can put the generator on either side. What would be cheaper, the long run for gas or the long run for electric?

Ready power located in New Orleans. I'm also having a gas meter installed in the near future so all the lines will be established once the meter is on the house.

Do you have the company's info that did your installation?

I got 3 quotes last year for generator install. Not 100% sure what size they were trying to install but once I got the quotes I gave up on it. All were in the $16k-$18k range. Needed about 20’ of gas line and power line ran. None of the companies would give me a break down on the cost of everything. I asked one of the representatives why it was so expensive when I could get a 22kw generator myself for $5500 brand new, what was the rest of the cost for? He wouldn’t tell me.

I’d get a quote from both a plumber and an electrician for their parts in the project. I imagine you could save a lot of money going this route and providing the generator/transfer switch yourself.

Whatever you do when you are spending that much money pay the extra for an 1800rpm generator.

In 2019 I installed a 24kw. I purchased the generac from HMC generators in prairieville for around $5200 I think with the transfer switch. I also needed 120 feet of the generac all in one cable which cost me $900. I needed about 10am er of gas piping. I poured a concrete base for the generator, pulled my own wire and connected everything. It’s all color coded. Total cost was under $7k.

Katy, TX - 22kw Generac installed in March of of this year $12.2k. If I remember correctly, we were quoted at most, $1k more for the 24kw.

That’s an insane price for an air cooled. Water cooled, maybe. You’d be better off doing a solar and storage setup if it’s going to cost that much.
