Is there no tomato that can beat the Louisiana heat?

My cherry tomatoes are still producing pretty well

My beefstakes are still flowering but not setting fruit. I'm hoping I can keep them alive until the fall

Hail storm yesterday afternoon pretty much flattened my garden. Naturally a couple hours after finishing the irrigation system. Guess I’ll start making plans for the fall garden.

Cool find. Spent the last 2 mornings pulling weeds from the garden. Let things get out of hand in June. Tomatoes are done. I constantly fight blight. It’s like it instantly shows up once the tomatoes start growing. Green beans are done. But should have black eyed peas and okra by the 4th.

It’s frickin hot.

My mini cucumbers are starting to come in, but only from one pant. The other beautiful vine just looks to have all male flowers. There were two bumblebees working them hard this morning, so maybe I'll finally get some from that vine.

My tomatoes up here have been a bust thus far. Seemed like we went from freeze warnings to 100 temps in 3 weeks. Got a stretch of nighttime temps in the 60s, if they don’t set any fruit I’m going to start prepping for fall.

Same here. Didn't even get that many cherry tomatoes.

I have plenty of mini cucumbers, and they taste fine, but they all quickly turn into yellow hot air balloons

also no one told me that dill is a fall/winter crop so my pickle ambitions withered away a few weeks ago.

On the vine or stored? Ours are doing great in the fridge.

I moved mine to mostly shade under our overhang and it's holding on.

Yeah my dill died in the heat as well. I've been having to buy fresh dill for my pickles, and i've been making a ton of pickles as my pickling cucumbers are still doing really well.

I had Dill, Parsley, Thyme, Rosemary, Lavender, Cilantro. All in pots but all got watered regularly on the timer. The Dill, Parsley and Cilantro all bolted and died. Somehow the Thyme is doing really well. The Rosemary and Lavender has been in the same pot for 2.5 years now doing fine.

on the vine.

It sucks - I have so many of them...but they all look stupid.

More like melons than cucumbers.

thyme, rosemary, lavender are perennials.
cilantro, parsley, dill are reseeding annuals…they flower, set seed and die.

I know mine go from flower to ready faster than normal cucumbers, so i check on them twice a day.

My rosemary, thyme, sage, basil, curry, lavender, lemongrass, oregano and mint all look great.

Cilantro and dill burned up. They looked so wimpy...I'm having a hard time accepting they will do better in the cold weather?

chives appear to be healthy but not interested in growing at all.

I'm going to try drying my sage to burn and making some teas by drying some of the others.

Do you do anything out of the ordinary with your herbs? always looking for ideas....

well then that makes sense. thanks.

sucks with the dill. The whole point of growing that was so i didn't have to spend $10 every time i wanted to make a big batch of pickles just on dill.

I guess i'll be alright in the fall when i replant cucumbers, and dill.

dill, parsley and cilantro will all over-winter. Plant in the fall and harvest till it gets hot and they bolt. I always let mine flower and go to seed and they usually come back

treat them like lettuce

I went from no cucs to 40 of em in a matter of a couple weeks when the bees found my stuff. Cucumbers came out my ears for a bit, on three or four plants. My celebrities finally have made about 25 or so tomatoes, but they are so slow to turn this year...my FIL who is an awesome gardener had said the same thing in his garden. I am about to tear out everything except peppers and get ready for the fall.

I had some pretty decent overlap with my dill and cucumbers. Dill hung on until early June, and I was getting cucumbers in late April.
