Here in SETX, everything looks good. Was a beautiful day yesterday, despite the tigers and astros trying to ruin it:
Cucumbers
Beans
Tomatoes, then corn at the end.
And harvested more beets

Been preparing raised beds up here in TX panhandle. I might throw some onions in the ground tomorrow. But everything else will have to wait a while, 33 forecasted next week.

Speckled king snake. Saw one of them in my backyard today - nice size, about 4 ft. Wife and neighbor wife were mad I didn't kill it. Thats the best snake to have handing around

I wish people weren't so afraid of snakes. Even the poisonous ones, if you leave them alone, they'll move along. I could understand if it posed an immediate threat (in the yard w/ kids/pet nearby) but I hate when they're needlessly killed.
Educate those gals on the awesomeness of the king snake.

Beginner gardener here. A couple of my pepper plants I planted laste week are getting holes in the leaves. I read that it could be caterpillars? I have tomato plants as well but those look fine. Anyone have a recommendation of what I can apply to these?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It could be a number of things. A few holes isn't a big deal, nothing in the garden will be perfect. My advice is just leave it alone, unless a significant portion of the plant starts getting eaten. But I'm a use-chemicals-as-a-last-resort person. If you do really suspect caterpillars, spray with Bt.

just keep an eye on them they can handle some herbivorication. Bugs gotta eat too and most caterpillars grow up to beneficial to your garden.

Well said cgrand...
Also happy Easter garden thread baws
Made an awesome carrot souflee with 4lb of carrots (still have about 15lb in the freezer and more in the garden). Also roasted those beets with Greek salt seasoning + evoo and balsamic.
(Also did a Boston butt on the smoker for pulled pork. Not everything can come directly from the garden).

Should have caught some of those pesky squirrels and had them with your veggies.

I was doing a search on loquats and noticed you have some. I've ordered two and wanted to ask what's the best place to plant them? I read in the shade to start but would full sun be okay if that's the only place I have to plant them?

happy Easter to all who garden.
we spent both days beautifying. Filled in a dirt area that used to have an old rotten deck on it with pea gravel and got the whole area cleaned up. Got a bunch of hard scape done and got stuff planted and potted that we’d been gathering. I also split and transplanted some hostas and ferns and relocated a bunch of Ohio spiderwort that’s coming up in my yard… gorgeous blue flowers.
Wildflowers are growing out and the garden got a pair of overhead trellis tunnels. Got all the deadfall picked up from the winter (within reason) so I can get the grass cut next week now that it’s dried out a bit.

full sun with room to grow.
they like heavily organic soil with lots of mulch around them. They’ll grow in part shade but they really explode in sun. Just keep them watered for the first few years
I have dozens (many dozens) I need to pull up and pot and give away. I think I’m going to put up a “free loquat” stand at the end of my driveway LOL

Could be that. Also could be slugs or snails. Check the underside of the leaves. I’ve already plucked a few slugs and snails off of my eggplant. There’s some holes in the leaves, but they’ll recover.
Happy Easter everyone!

Been a busy few days with a little more work to do
Corn is coming up
Beans joining the party
Potatoes coming along nicely. Does look like the excessive rain in late February hurt sprouting.
Tomatoes looking great
Peppers still stressed a little from the transplant and heavy rain a day or so after. They'll be fine. Also need to clean up the row...
Got squash, zucchini, and cucumbers planted Friday. They should be up soon.
All in all, not a bad start. Also had a little mud snake friend join for a bit.

Good deal. If I lived near Louisiana, I'd definitely relieve you of some of those extra plants.

My dog finally decided to take the Squirrels seriously. She brought me one when I got home from work.
