It's amazing to me how far ahead most of you are. My plants are still looking great other than some yellowing and powdery mildew of my cucumbers, but I've picked half a dozen tomatoes, 4 bells, a jalapeno and 4 cucumbers. The grape tomatoes are about to come in with a vengeance though.

Only planted mine a few weeks ago. Didn’t do much. Just tomato plants.

I did plant a bunch of watermelons at my land and will plant pumpkins in another week.

My plants in the raised beds looked rough before I left for work this afternoon. Guess I’ll water twice daily until the rains come.

Mine are slow growing as well. I had one bell pepper that was almost as big as the plant. They'll eventually take off.

Mine stayed the same size for about a month then took off a week or two ago. They might come around

I pulled 3 out of my 5 squash plants yesterday. I left one yellow straightneck and one zucchini. I've been giving squash and zucchini away. It's just too much!

One of the plants had a vine borer in the main stem. I threw them all in the trash instead of the compost bin. I'm still injecting BT. We'll see how much longer I can keep the 2 remaining plants going. But I've gotten plenty of produce out of them, so it's been a success.

Yeah they’re getting bad now. It sounds silly, but I actually use a handheld vacuum to suck them up then drop them in a bowl of soapy water to drown. Neem won’t do much against them. I find even pyrethin isn’t that effective against them unless you use a strong dose. Synthetic insecticides are probably your best bet as far as spraying goes. But I try to avoid using them as much as possible to avoid potentially harming pollinators.

ETA: I caught about a dozen or more yesterday with the vacuum.

I think I am going to try the vac thing. The salt gun works but you have to wait till they are away from any fruit.

Any advice as far as aphids go? One of my tomato plants and a couple of my pepper plants are infested with them. I sprayed permethrin and applied diatomaceous earth and it didn't seem to phase them. Finally broke down and put malathion (avoided the flowers as much as I could) and it knocked them back but a week later it's like I did nothing. I don't want to keep applying pesticides that will hurt pollinators.

Buy ladybugs on Amazon. They will eat the aphids.

ETA: neem oil should help with aphids. Just have to spray regularly.

Here are some photos of what I've got going on. Cherries are coming on strong and I have a few peppers and tomatoes starting to turn.

Sungolds:

Midnight snack. This plant is probably 8' tall and loaded. Pretty impressed with it. If I like the flavor, I'll definitely grow them again.

Big beef:

Fred's Tie Dye:

This is some kind of Cuban Marconi. I forgot the name - probably somewhere earlier in this thread.

Pepper box:

Jimmy Nardellos, also loaded:

Either Carmen or Corno di Toro Giallo:

Little jalapeno plant. It's funny how much bigger the other pepper plants are since they didn't wind up making fruit for awhile.

I have one that froze to the ground and sprouted back up. It's only about 6" tall and LOADED with peppers that are longer than it is tall. It's pretty impressive lol

How do y'all keep terrorists (squirrels) off you cantaloupe, or melons in general? Just case them in hardware cloth?

Please keep me updated on the taste review. I'm living vicariously through you since all of mine died in the late freeze. Curious on how they taste.

Big Jims are looking good. I have 8 of these planted. I plan on making chili powder with them.

I had one Evil Olive tomato plant make it through the freeze. It's about 7' tall and loaded. I thought they were going to be cherry sized but they're about the size of golf balls now and haven't started changing color yet.

Will do. I'm hopeful they taste good because they look really cool .
