FWIW... Nothing left in my garden west of ATL but eggplant and peppers. Heres another 1/2 gal of red/orange habs, ghost and tabasco peppers.

Want to can but will hafta dry and make ground pepper...

Not sure how widespread the shortage is but I've not been able to find canning jars, lids or rings anywhere near me. Also having a hard time finding on line.

Already have a pint of dried put up.

You probably had a lot of people plant gardens and get in to canning this year due to Covid. I’m sure that wiped out supplies.

Yeah the shelves have been empty everywhere I look. Good thing I’ve built up a good supply over the years.

Planted carrot seeds last week. They have started to sprout. Let’s hope I can keep the squirrels from digging them up.

all the country folk are saying jars are hard to find YouTube full of folks complaining or bragging about a yard sale find. We been canning for years and have amassed a good stash of jars. We dont can like we usta as we age so we have plenty the only loss is from gifting but stuff we use we reuse. We quit canning some stuff and now freeze it for the ese. Fixing to smother down a huge pot of okra with sausage onion seasonings and rotel and freeze in quart bags. We love it and et it often. Brown down chicken take it out brown some onion making an ettuffe. Take a bag of frozen okra straight from freezer to pot. when it comes together and heats up its magic.

Have a coupla cases of used jars and enuff bands, just cant find any lids. Have always only used them once and discarded (per what my mom always said).

Have put up most of my tomatoes, beans, squash etc. in freezer bags for a few years now.

That cooler, overcast weather and rain has been doing wonders for my fall garden. Things are really starting to take off. Sowed some onion seed about a week ago and they’re sprouting. Planted garlic cloves earlier this week and some of those have already sprouted. Things are looking up. It’s about to get pic heavy.

How’s everyone else coming along?

I started seed at the end of July and transplanted them mid/late August. Boy did they grow fast!

My Laura aftermath garden. There used to be a fence behind it. Really the only thing in decent shape are the 2 eggplants. My Bermuda has gotten a strong holding in there since I’ve neglected it for a month.

I’m thinking next weekend I’ll get in there, rip everything except the eggplant out and focus on prepping the soil with cow. The wife and I tried to go out today to get plants to overhaul the front flower bed but none of the stores around here have any plants what so ever. Another weekend we will probably go out of town to find some and I’ll get some cheater store plants to throw in the garden.

Wow, Balls. That sucks. Been there done that.

As far as how mine is going, the peppers that survived the summer heat have exploded with new peppers and growth. The Tabascos have three times as many peppers now are almost my height. My pole beans and cucumbers are beginning to run nicely. All of the bush beans are loaded with blossoms. The squash plants have started sprouting female flowers so we shall see how they do. My super late okra experiment is going well so far. I'm not sure if I will get many pods by frost but they are growing well so at least we have a nice green look. Bug issues have been insane. I have had to up my spraying schedule and may say hell with it and grab the Bifenthrin. Organic gardening has more challenges in the fall than the spring, for me at least.

I will get my garlic in the ground this weekend, I hope, and gave up on onions after last year's utter failure.

The caterpillars (mostly army worms) have been giving me fits. I’ve been spraying thuricide twice a week. They seem to have finally slowed down at least.

I, finally, got the caterpillars under control but the leaf footed bugs and leaf miners have been wrecking shop lately. My normal Neem, dish soap, thuricide spraying cycle seems to just make them mad. I will spray one day then see 2 dozen more leaf footed nymphs the next.

The only organic method I have found to kill them is a heavy dose of pyrethrin. Same with stink bugs. They are some tough bastards.

You plant slips or bulbs?

Got tomatoes broccoli and cauliflower planted, along with my fall potato experiment. Was going to pull my eggplant, but they have taken off again. Okra and peppers continue to produce like crazy. Garlic and shallots doing their thing. The battle with the moths continues...

I planted Granex and Texas 1015 seeds. Plenty of leaf growth, very light and sandy growing medium. Full sun.
Still wound up with bulbs the size of eggs.
