When you say scalp, how low should I be cutting my bermuda at this time of year?
Generally as low as a rotary mower will go... Bag it all up. It will allow your bermuda to green up sooner

And what pre-emergent did you put out?
I put out prodiamine. Put any of them out though even if it might be a little late. I'd prefer Dimension at this point because it has some post-emergent control as well, but definitely put something down soon.

What about St Aug?

Any of you fine gentlemen know what I’m dealing with here? It’s spread like wildfire in my back and side yard.
Looks like torpedo grass to me. Your only option is fire...or roundup.

I was afraid of that.
So if I nuke it with roundup, how long until I can lay sod on top?

In my experience, Roundup only kills what is on the surface. I fought that crap all spring and summer in one area of the yard last year. Prayers sent.

Do you do this with St. Aug as well? I cut it pretty low last weekend and bagged, but could have gone lower.

I've never heard of scalping a St Aug lawn. That is mostly for bermuda and zoysia lawns.

You're right. It would probably take multiple rounds of glyphosate. It can be done though. Just takes patience.

How in the hell do I tell the difference between torpedo grass and a St. Aug runner?

Put my pre emerge down last Saturday
Gonna wait a couple weeks and start spraying chemical to kill a few weeds that have come up

I am trying to level my lawn and have a couple of questions for guidance.
I read on a thread here that river silt will have a bunch of weeds and grass in it.
I have also read that I should use masonry sand with a mix of topsoil. The problem I’ve had with topsoil is that it has all the woody bark like material in it that I don’t necessarily want in my yard either.
What should I do and which is the best of two bad options?

I would just wait until your grass is growing well and use masonry sand. Forget top soil especially if it has bark in it.

Any recommendations for knocking out moss. Have a very shady area and it’s all over. Just rake it up?
Posted on 2/13/19 at 9:00 pm to Bonjourno
Just rake it up. You could also get some Moss Out from a big box store and kill it then rake it up. Just keep in mind, it's coming back unless you fix the reason you have moss. Usually, it is poor drainage, too much shade, or bad pH. If it is shade, you may need to trim back some trees to allow more sunlight through. If it is poor drainage, you may need a French drain.

I'm in SW Arkansas. Basically starting from scratch on my lawn as the previous owners completely neglected the lawn. We took down over 50 trees to open up the back and front yard (about an acre total).
My plan is to seed Bermuda this Spring. I tried to do it last year but I was late getting it down as we didn't close on the house until middle of April
For the most part, I've got a cleared, barren lot. Mix of good soil and sand/clay. Soil sample has been sent
But for now, I've got a whole lotta weeds coming up. Should I just spray it all with something that will torch everything and then seed once the temps are more appropriate?

If you are going to seed with a common Bermuda, you could spray everything with Trimec now to take out the broadleaves, and when it warms up a little hit it all with some MSMA. I'm sure there is some common Bermuda already there, and it should come through those sprayings. That way you may not have to start out seeding a completely bare lawn.

I'm about to do some weed free zone this weekend but what do I have here? Is this a runner or torpedo grass? I always just assumed these were St. Aug runners.

You are safe. Not torpedo

I put down some prodiamine in Oct and it held up well. Only now starting to get some weeds coming up. Will kill these and put down another application of prodiamine this weekend.
