After seeing photos of myself from 2012 and being in fantastic shape and seeing photos of myself from this past weekend and looking like a busted can of biscuits.... I am going to attempt this Whole30 thing. I read the book and have the cookbook. My issue is going to be overeating. My mind will tell my body “hey you are eating good/healthy stuff so let’s eat double the amount!”

Any tips or ideas on how to make it through? I work in the OR so trying to eat something every hour and drinking lots of water will be extremely difficult.

Log your food in a nutrition tracker, I find I’m less likely to over eat healthy food when I see what my intake is and the overall calories I’m going for in a day.

Yea use this LINK to find your calories and macros you should be eating. Plug them into my fitness pal. You are more than welcome exchange some of those carbs for fat. Use whole 30 principles everything though. Log everything no matter how small.

What do you plan to do workout wise.

I worried about that the first time we did it. It was never a problem.

If you stick to the diet, it will not be a problem. Try it for two weeks, if you plateau, eat more fats than carbs but stick to the food list. It’s incredibly difficult to overeat carbs and calories on a whole/real foods diet.

Good luck! You are doing great things for your body and health outside of just weight loss.

I’m somewhat limited on what I can do because I had 2 hip surgeries last year. My surgeon did say I can walk as much as I want though. So my plan is to walk at least 30 minutes a day. Would like to learn how to swim. Like competitive swim. I already know how to swim so i don’t drown. When I was doing therapy after surgery I did some of it in the pool. I always left starving and extremely tired. What a work out!

Just do what you can then. The caloric restriction will help you lose the weight and if you stick to the whole30 approved foods you will improve your health.

I’m on a non-caloric restriction diet.

Zero grains, and somewhat low carbs. Mostly protein and fat.

I've been on whole30 since the 2nd. I track my intake. People who say it's nearly impossible to overeat on whole30 haven't met me and how much I like to eat fatty, salty foods . It is definitely harder than when eating grains, though. I got my macros from Avatar Nutrition, slid my fats way up, and fill my macros with whole30 compliant foods.

I initially lost 8 pounds in 1.5 weeks but my weight jumped back up 4 pounds in 4 days, and now is creeping back down at the rate I actually expected to lose at. Interesting (and frustrating) to see the fluctuations.

I definitely see and feel that I've lost some inches. It'd be nice for the scale to catch up.

I did Whole 30 last March, then kept most of the eating habits up until about November. Fell off the wagon for the Holidays, but about to do another round of it. The only advice i've always given people about it, is don't eat a meal without knowing what your next meal will be. If you get hungry and aren't prepared things can go sideways. I always kept the Chomps jerky sticks and approve Lara bars around just in case of that exact scenario.

Thanks

My peak weight loss was 30 pounds. I dropped more inches than anything. Dropped an entire waist size and shirt size. None of my old clothes fit me anymore. Started it at 248. After a round of Whole 30 and about 2 more months of trying my best to stick to it I was down to 218. Once I started working out a little more regularly I settled in around 225. Im back at 230 after the holidays, so im about to kick off another round.

Started it on the 2nd. I don't log what I eat or count calories.

It's not hard to do, but like someone else said, always have your next meal ready. I meal prep for the week on Sundays. It takes time up front, but it's worth it the rest of the week.

I didn't hit a scale before I started, but I have lost some and just generally feel much better. Higher energy levels and no 2:30 feeling at work. Also, no more heartburn.

The second week was strange, I would literally dream about foods I couldn't have. I woke up feeling guilty. Weird feeling.

I don't do while 30, but I stay away from most carbs outside of the nonavoidable green veggies carbs and what not, and I found this to be a huge benefit. I used to get terrible heart burn and I haven't had any at all since the first month I changed my diet.

So today is day 8. I have been really proud of myself. On Tuesday we had a rep visit us in the OR. He and the doctor were going out for drinks and apps after cases and invited me to come along. I politely declined. Then on Friday this same doctor added on a case at the end of the day. We were literally shutting down our room when he added it on. This doctor happens to own a restaurant in my residential building and it happens to be one of my favs. He said he was going there on Sunday for brunch and if I came down he’d buy me brunch and drinks. Again, I politely declined. We also had lunch brought in on Friday and I ate my own lunch. This is the first diet that I have actually stuck with and not strayed. Not even once.

Now.... I will say this. It is hard. I really wanted a baked potato on Friday (they brought in BBQ). I could have had a potato and the meat but I would have wanted it smothered in butter and sour cream. I have yet to reach that point where i’m not craving things. Everything looks and sounds good. The weekend was the hardest by far. At least at work i’m unable to focus on what is lurking in my pantry. I’m constantly sterile and in a case so I literally can’t eat. And I have to make do with what I brought for snacks on the rare occasion I do get a break.

I have made myself drink at least half a gallon of water a day. I bought a water jug that holds this much so no guessing and remembering how many cups i’ve had. I have also been walking every other day. Since my hip limits my activity and what I can do, I promised myself I would at least walk. And after doing the Louisiana Half Marathon 2 weeks ago I have no excuses for why I can’t walk 30 minutes. I am going to start throwing in some weights and other exercises as well.

I know it says not to but I couldn’t resist.... I have lost 4 pounds thus far. I’m sure it’s mostly water weight but i’ll take it. I do feel less bloaty and my stomach doesn’t seem to look as big. As for how I feel? Meh. Hard to say. It seems my chronic bursitis/inflammation in my hip has decreased. Even with all the walking i’ve done. I do still find myself feeling hungry. Or it could just be cravings. If i’m able I have been drinking water when this feeling hits.

I have done pretty good with meals and planning them out. I just feel like i’m still eating too much. Here’s to the next 7 days...
