Walking and jogging (PSA): With or against the flow of traffic?

Answer: Against
Why? To see oncoming vehicles, for quick reactions, to make eye contact with drivers…
I believe many local and state laws explicitly require pedestrians and runners to face traffic when a sidewalk is not available.
Why do I post this?
I counted 4 of my last 10 road workouts that people are walking / jogging with traffic, not against.
I am officially a crotchety old man with this post. I know.
Just wishing for no irony for these health & fitness peeps.
Old man out.

I can stand going against traffic. They get to you faster and have less reaction time. I'll stay with the flow of traffic on a less busy road and just keeping checking my 6.

Logic - Not seeing any speed is better than seeing fast closing speed?
Newton hater! Kidding.

That’s been the rule (against) for over 50 years, but it’s more important now than ever. With quiet electric cars, drivers that are texting and not paying attention, and walkers/joggers with ear buds in, you really need to be facing the cars closest to you.

I've noticed this for a few years and it's usually Millenials and Gen Z but hey, I'm just glad they're outside.....even if they are staring at their phone.

Go to a park and get the hell off the road

Against, always against. It's not only safer for me, it's safer for everyone else walking, cyclists and even drivers.
On a jogging or multi use path like the Tammany Trace it's on the right but on any road, it's the left.
This is like people who use their hazards in the rain. They can told 1,038,.386 the safety reasons they shouldn't do it but some will because they want to.

I dislike neighbors walkers, they’re everywhere in all directions. It’s a road not a gym or a park. The ones trying to make eye contact I find especially weird.

No, it's very relevant and thank you for posting. Running and cycling with traffic is a very serious issue and I'm surprised more people don't know the laws surrounding it.
