Ultraprocessed Foods High in Seed Oils Could Be Fueling Colon Cancer Risk

Nothing to see here. I urge everyone on here to eliminate seed oils and also eliminate Sucralose and Ace K as well. You will feel much better for doing it.

Climbing rates of colon and rectal cancer among people under 50 years old is a striking recent trend that has alarmed and puzzled clinicians racing to figure out why. Now a new study published in Gut offers what might be a crucial insight: specific lipids, or fatty acids, that are abundantly found in ultra-processed foods may be promoting inflammation that causes cancerous colon cells to run amok.
Colorectal cancer tumor samples from 81 people in the U.S. had excessive amounts of inflammation-boosting lipids, called omega-6 fatty acids—and lacked helpful lipids called omega-3 fatty acids, which help stop inflammation.
Inflammation is a normal defensive response that the immune system switches on to heal wounds or fight off infection. But researchers in the 1800s found that colon tumors under a microscope looked like “poorly healed wounds,” says Timothy Yeatman, a co-author of the study and a professor of surgery at the University of South Florida. Rampant inflammation over long periods of time damages cells and hampers their ability to fight potentially cancerous cell growth. Omega-6 fatty acids often come from our diet, and Yeatman suspects ultraprocessed food is likely a major source of them.

EDIT:
I'm pointing out the irony in this post

Here are some common cooking oils that contain more of the “better-for-you” fats and less saturated fat:
Canola
Corn
Olive
Peanut
Safflower
Soybean
Sunflower
Vegetable

I can’t believe an oil made out of rapeseed could be bad for your butt

I use tallow, lard or olive oil for 99% of my cooking but I'm still gonna make a gumbo every winter with vegetable oil

Just because thats the way I've always done it. It tastes good and one or two pots of gumbo a year isn't gonna kill me

Because it’s gas and has 1.5 cups of oil for like 150 servings. If that’s going to kill me, frick it

So what do you use? I'm not opposed to changing it up. But I'm also not all that concerned about 1-2 pots of gumbo a year damaging my health. I drink alcohol far more than that

I’m not against you on using vegetable oil but I personally use lard and to me it’s even better

Tallow
lard
butter
avocado oil
etc.
I think coconut oil might change the flavor too much.

We switched to avocado oil a few years ago, though I use Irish butter very often too. When all this "seed oil" stuff came out I wondered why avocado wasn't on the same list. Turns out avocado oil isn't made from the pit (seed) but is instead pressed from the flesh; so it's NOT a seed oil and remains on the recommended list. FWIW, I can't tell that it adds anything at all to the taste of foods which is good in many cases but also why I used butter instead sometimes.

I recently used bacon fat and loved the outcome. I'll be doing another the same way on Christmas Eve. I was going to use tallow, but folks on the F&D Board mentioned they had separation issues. I had none with bacon fat.
Tasted great, I didn't feel crazy full, nor did I have any heartburn.
