Glad the shoe thread is alive..I have a complex question -->

My coach's plan has my marathon long run capped at 16 miles and/or 2:30:00 ish but at a higher pace than long & slow..not a tempo but closer to race pace.

I'm in never-never land for shoes here --> Do I wear a more race type shoe for this harder effort or do I wear regular long run shoe?

Do I buy a "B" race shoe for these long runs & B races ?

Glad you got them. I think if I hadn’t gotten them a bit small I might like them more. I’m not trashing them, just moving them to be the back of the pack.

Fresh foam has been a YMMV for me. Loved the 1080 and the arishi. Haven’t loved the other ones.

I treat my longest run of a training block like a dress rehearsal for the race. I wear my race day clothes from my hat, shirt, shorts, socks, and shoes. Same goes for my planned nutrition and hydration.

don't over think it. focus on running. I race in next % and that's the only time they come out of the box. Have several other shoes for daily runs but I can put anyone of them on to do any type of run. Yes I like one for particular runs better than others but you shouldn't need to worry about being that specific. You have a longer run in what some call a "slower" shoe... guess what you just work a little harder and have a better workout.

Kballa6 & ks_nola,

Thanks for the comments. My favorite takeaway was "work a little harder for a better workout".

I'll take a laissez faire attitude with the shoe and focus on nutrition, rest, and pacing.

Tried them on yesterday, ride is a little like the alpha but they are somehow less stable. The fit is pretty unforgiving. If you are hellbent on making a super shoe marathon racer your daily trainer, the New Balance Fuel Cell RC is softer than a fresh dog turd, so it’ll handle the daily trodding and is 225 so you can spend a bunch of money too. Another good option that I also tried was the Brooks Hyperion Elite 2 which felt like you’d want the Skechers Razor 3 to feel, but 130 dollars more at 250.

I have the the Next% and it has a very low shelf life for daily miles. I also have the Alpha Fly; way more durable but also unavailable.

If you’re eying plated trainers, Saucony Endorphin Speed seems to be the one.

Try the Endorphine Speed. I've picked those more than my ZF3 in the last month that I've had them.

Have you tried the Pro? Seems just like the speed with a carbon plate.

Yes, my general thought is that I wish the pro had more cushion. I enjoy a softer landing and the speed seems to have more foam. I wish the Pro had the extra foam that the speed have.

They aren’t a Vaporfly replacement, I’m not sure anything is but I like my Fuel Cell TC better than the Pro.

I tried on the rc elite at fleet feet the other day and they feel very, very soft (in a good way).

All the reviews say the speed and pro midsole is identical (stack heights and foam). I wonder if the speeds softer feel is simply due to the nylon plate, or maybe the foam is tuned differently?

Very possible. Wearing both, I feel the foam is softer in the speed but that could just be me.

I’m sure this has been asked before and is elementary, but how many shoes do you guys rotate? My whole life I have worn one pair until they wear out then replace.

I’m starting to run again, been at about 20mpw for a few months now in some Asic 2000’s and want to get one if not multiple more pair [in different colors ;) ] to rotate in.
