just bought a pair of the much-hyped NB FuelCell Rebels. Hoping they can be my marathon shoe in October. I'll report back after I get a chance to break 'em in

Update:
I bought this shoe after I had heard it was a lightweight shoe that could handle an everyday workload. After breaking it in, this is not a marathon shoe for me. Overall, a nice tempo and possible speed work shoe. But it lacks the cushion and stability I'd want in a shoe for that distance. May work in a marathon for a lighter runner with better form than me.

The knit upper is very comfortable. Not always a fan of a knit upper, but this is probably the best I've worn. The FuelCell midsole gives a little cushion and has a fair amount of pop. The shoe is super light - like 8 ounces in a size 14 light! It is rare for a shoe in my size (outside of like a flat) to come in under 10 ounces.

Overall, a good shoe to have in a rotation. Not sure I'd recommend paying full price for it though, like I did I'd probably say wait until you can get a good deal if you're interested.

By the way, there’s nothing wrong with heel striking and be weary of anyone that says there is. 90 percent of the planet and 60 percent of the elites are heel strikers.

Cracks me up when someone says they don't heel strike. Then you watch them run, and they clearing heel strike.

Sooo just got back from an impromptu trip to Houston. I hate to give this place away, but I made a stop at the Nike Clearance Outlet in Pasadena. Lost my shite when I browsed the shoe section. Can’t vouch for any sizes besides 8.5 and 9 because that’s what I wear, but I ended up getting a pair of Epic React Flyknit 2 for $63 and a pair of Zoom Fly Flyknit for $48.99. They also had a pair of Vaporfly 4% Flyknits in my size, but they were $250. Though they were running 30% off each item, but still couldn’t pull the trigger...just don’t think I’m established enough of a runner to utilize those shoes as they should be. They also had a couple pairs of Pegasus Turbo’s, but I didn’t care for the fit. Oh, and they had a pair of the new Joyrides...very weird feel on feet. Snug and you can feel each section filled with the beads.

Also picked up a short sleeve shirt and long sleeve shirt for $13.99 each and they had tons of shorts between 3” and 5” but I’m stocked on those.

Mainly a PSA to anyone in that area or anyone going that way, it’s worth checking out. Have to remember there is a difference between regular Nike factory outlets and Nike Clearance stores. I’ve been to this one three times and have never left unhappy lol.

Half the board has em and there's not a single one of us that can "use them as they should be used". They don't make you faster, they're supposed to make you more efficient. If your lactate threshold is nine minute flat miles, the shoes won't magically change that to sub nine which is where I think some people get confused.

They might help you sustain your threshold for just a little bit longer though. Which is what they are designed to do. Hell, for thirty percent off I would have snatched a pair for sure.

Ahh I see. Well, $49 for Zoom Fly Flyknits seemed more reasonable for me lol. After watching/reading reviews also seems like the Zoom Fly’s will be more durable so I guess that’s a bonus. I let some other fortunate soul find a great deal on the 4%’s

I am going to go with the Float Ride Run Fast for my marathon this fall. I wanted a shoe that has the sole of the Vaporfly but no carbon plate. Nike refuses to make that shoe so Reebok it is.

I will review in the future for all you other baws that want a fast pepax shoe without the dumb plate hurting your feet and heels. Peace! BRM

Closest shoe to a Vaporfly w/o carbon plate would have to be the Pegasus Turbo, right? I tried a pair on last weekend but found the fit to be a bit loose compared to the Flyknit uppers, was not a fan.

I went to Fleet Feet in Metairie yesterday just bc I was curious about the foot scan thing. Ended up grabbing some Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19’s to replace my Mizuno Wave Inspire 15’s for everyday training. Did a short run yesterday and they seem great. I didn’t have issues, but am a bit cautious with the sizing. The scan showed my left at size 8.5 and right at size 9...narrow heel, average width, medium to high arches, slight pronation on the left. Lately I’ve been buying 8.5’s in all of my shoes but they fit me into 9.5’s. They do seem big, but they were adamant that it’s the correct fit for a running shoe. Like I said, I had 0 issues or discomfort on my run, so guess I’ll keep at it. Just hoping the Zoom Fly’s don’t kill my feet bc the fit is much more snug...though I typically prefer that.

I've trained and raced in the Zoom Fly for a while now and love them. Bought my first pair of 4% flyknits and it's amazing the difference in feel on longer runs.

Pegasus Turbo, right?

Kind of. The top half of the sole is made up of React which Nike is not very upfront about.

The Run Fast does have some EVA placed to keep your foot from sliding but for the most part is made up of entirely the same material as Zoom X. Lower stack height and 40 cheaper than the Turbo gets my money.

If anyone wears a stability shoe, just got some Diadora Mythos 3 and I’m loving them so far for my use. They have a ton of cushion but aren’t heavy.

The other thread reminded me of this. I did some sprints tonight in my very cushioned shoe. And while did they by no means make me any “slower” I definitely feel less return when wearing a pair of cushioned shoes than racing flats.

To maybe paraphrase Burt, fast shoes aren’t going to magically knock seconds off your mile time from out of the box to their first mile, but if you’ve trained hard enough, fast shoes can give you a a return that will knock seconds off your mile time if you put in the work.

Picked up a pair of PureBoost DPRs to replace my PureBoost Gos and it's a great base mileage shoe. Little firmer than the Go and 1.5 oz lighter at 9 ounces. It's bouncy but soft and really only took a half a run to break in. Downsides might include the tongue that wants to fold over and it being a PureBoost Adidas shoe, will be wide in the sole on the forefoot. Big upside of the DPR over the Go is the more traditional upper over the knit upper on the Go.

I got a great deal at $60 (retail 150) but you can still find the DPR hanging out on Amazon for around 70

You can find the Go on Amazon for around 55 but I'd wait for the DPR to drop again.

How many miles have you been getting out of the Boost line?

For me? About 350. But they could go hundreds more for a lot of folks.

Right now, adidas is the only shoe company I can get consistency from. I think from here on out, all my daily trainers are going to be adidas with boost or it’s adopted sister Reebok with the float ride.

Burt, you and I have similar taste in shoes. I do most of my tempo runs in Boost and shorter intervals in Reebok. My Boston's have 325 miles on them, and I'm only just starting to feel a difference. Good thing I have three additional pairs as back up.

I agree with the Boston's....they just came in yesterday and I'll use them for my entire marathon plan which is around 700-750 miles...I'll be able to easily track how many miles I put on them for reference before I buy a new pair.

Alright, I put a long run in the Adidas PureBoost DPRs and... buy this damn shoe. This feels like it's going to be my go to workhorse. I just... I dunno, I always knew this moment would come; I didn't expect it to be so emotional. I said I wouldn't cry but...

Amazon (different sizes and prices)

I will say this: If you're not already a fan of adidas, these will not change your mind. Cheers

Burt,

You sold me on Boston..I'll take your advice and buy some Adidas PureBoost DPR...

Would I use these as an alternate shoe, faster , longer or just as something different?

Bostons should be your interval/tempo/race shoe. DPRs should be your base/easy/long run shoes.
