This is a PSA to the over 50 crowd yet to be vaccinated:

I got the vaccine yesterday. In their standard warnings, they said a possible side effect was feeling bad the next day.

Despite being "unlikely", it did happen, and "feeling bad" was an understatement. Today I felt like George Foreman punched me in the arm, and and threw me in front of a moving truck. Aching head to toe, sore muscles, sore joints, sluggish.

It has passed now, but I had to take a good portion of the day off.

I still think it is worth it. I work with someone who got shingles last year and he was out for 6 weeks.

I just suggest planning for an easy day the day after, just in case.

I got shingles when I was 30. I would let George Foreman punch me in the balls before getting shingles again.

I got shingles when I was 20, I didn't think it was that bad.

Had it in my 40s. Wasn't all that bad. Not likely to get again, so no vaccine.

I got shingles at 31. It was uncomfortable and irritating, but not incredibly painful.

It was on my chest and back, so the location may just not have been sensitive.

Got shingles the day after my vasectomy in my armpit. It wasn't too bad. I think I was concerned about other things to take the focus off the shingles.

LOL at getting a shingles vaccine. I guess the fear monger adds worked.

Severity can vary for each person. I had it when I was around 20 as well and it wasn't bad. But I've known people that had it and were in excruciating pain.

Gonna depend on if just one dermatome is affected or multiple. If multiple dermatomes are affected it is disseminated shingles and is much more serious (as well as more contagious).

Did the same to me. Felt bad for a day, arm was sore for a week. Second dose was a little better.

And for all you saying getting them wasn't that bad, that's great. But a friend nearly went blind in one eye when virus set in optic nerve. Unbearable pain. I'd rather be uncomfortable for a couple of days than go through what they did.

Yep. Had a friend who had them on her back and it wasn’t too bad. My Grandmother had them on her face and she was hospitalized over it.

No issues for me.

Got it in my early 30's a small outbreak along the neck at the collar. It wasn't too bad. I had another small out break 2 years ago aprox 15 years apart, and it's sucked. I have a very noticeable scar on my forehead. It was on the right side of forehead through the scalp.

I had shingles at age 34. It sucked. I could feel pain moving through my nerves from point A to point B.
Very very painful.

Got vaccine, no side affects. After seeing what my dad went through when he had it, no way I was passing up vaccination.

I had shingles about 9 year ago. All along the right side of my forehead and face. Looked like I had been burned in a fire. Hurt like everything. Would go home and sit in the dark as it felt like the light would make it hurt more.

I have a prescription for the shingles vaccine, but I haven't been to the pharmacist to get it.
BTW: only a pharmacist can give you the vaccination, not your regular doctor.

Not true

Then why would my regular doctor not give me the shot and tell me to go to a pharmacist?

I'm lucky my chest and back didn't hurt more. I know people who've gotten it on their face and that location seems awful.

It can also legitimately take the eye too.

So because one doctor said to get it from the pharmacy....you think that means ALL doctors can’t give it?

Maybe your doctor just doesn’t keep it in stock at his practice. Prefers not to deal with it and refers patients to the pharmacy.
