Apple Watch was my silver bullet here.

Phone
Text
Spotify
Work email

All through my airpods while running. Smooth setup, plus all the basic tracking and run programs, etc on the device. I'll pop my key fob only in my running shorts pocket and hit the road.

If you have an iPhone, Apple Watched with the $10/month cellular add on are very useful. Music/GPS/calling. Then you don't need to keep your phone on you.

There are some running belts you can wear that are skinny fanny packs.

I hold phone in hand, but wrap it with an old running head band. Rubber band type situation.

If I didn't have the smart watch I'd be all analog, no devices on my runs like I used to be. I'm not toting a damn phone around,

But then how will you snap pics for the gram?

Y'all must be young runners, lol. At least 4-5 times over the last 10 years I've had to call the wife or a kid for a ride home after pulling up lame 3+ miles from home.

Apple charges $10/month to add data to an Apple Watch without needing Bluetooth connectivity, if you want to go that route.

I've got the Garmin 245 and it does have an emergency response feature but I've never used it and haven't had it near my phone. I assume it has Garmin notify 911 if something ever did come up.

Really just comes down to why you carry your phone.

The standard Garmin emergency feature requires a phone to be present. I believe only the Garmin 945lte has standalone emergency calling.

Amazon Link

I used to wear one of these with my phone and a house key in it. Couldn't even tell I had it on under my shirt.

I run with my Apple Watch only.

I use the timers, music, and training apps if needed- leave the phone either at home or in the car.

If that is not an option look at the Lulu shorts with phone pocket in the liner. I have a couple pairs of those and they are great as well.
