weight training

i suggest reading info from layne norton, barbell medicine, docswholift, etc

now ultimate is lift 2-3x a week and walking a deliberate 360 min per week.

Weight lifting burns more calories than traditional jogging, but HIIT style running workouts can be just as effective.

I'd definitely recommend mixing in both, as the benefits from running (cardio) and strength training are complimentary.

weight training is going to be more effective if all things equal

but in reality, all things are not equal and you will stick with whichever one you enjoy more, so if you enjoy running more, then run

if you enjoy lifting more, then lift

if you enjoy both, then mix it up

You're not considering the most important part of maintaining your weight: diet. Everything else is all personal preference and what your overall goals (besides the number on the scale) are.

I can go on an easy jog for 15 min and burn more calories than I do in an hour or more of strength training. I don't know of anyone who would say that cardio burns less calories than strength training. I do however agree that, long term, strength training is better for your overall metabolism and having your body burn calories for you.

Weightlifting but they are both important to be healthy (as is diet). I would mix it up.

In that 15 minutes sure. Weight training uses way more energy in total due to the recovery.

I don't know anyone that knows what they're talking about that would agree with you, including experts and scientists in the field.

I believe if you dedicated yourself to either a running program or a weightlifting program, the running would have the most success maintaining your weight.

You are going to gain weight if you lift and you are going to have to re-engineer your whole physique. A 10/10 swap is very difficult and would take months to complete. Which include changes to your lifestyle and diet. Running is much easier and has quicker results.

Running.

Gaining weight? Run more.
Losing weight? Run less.

All depends on how many calories you eat.
