Got back into running in the back half of 2017 and signing up to run 1,000 miles for charity in 2018.

Here is the link for anyone interested.

Good luck.
It's certainly an obtainable goal, but you've still got to be dedicated. Especially in the summer months. It's very hard for me to run from about May - October.

To the OP

I more or less took your lead and I am in the middle of trying to run 1000 miles for 2018 for myself. At 380+ miles so far. A little behind my goal of 100 per month during these cooler months, with plans to taper off during the hot humid summer months.
Not breaking any speed records, but this is giving my an incentive to keep up the running all year.
Again, thanks, even though you didn't realize you inspired me.

I respect you for trying but I threw up in my mouth just thinking about running 20 miles a week.

Your thread title made me nauseous.
Obviously, I’m not a runner.

Where are you? You want to get 280 miles in over the next 2 months? Would be impressive.
Getting too hot here for long runs.

Dang, this is awesome.

Kudos to all y'all who are doing it.

I can't run much during ski season--knees (and schedule) just can't handle both. So I'm probably toast.

Garmin said I ran 469 in past 12 months, and that includes 3 months of skiing. Also, in the first month of that range, I was still doing chemo (I started running a little during the last month of it), so it's possible I could do it if I push hard from here on out. Oh wait, I also don't think I was using my Garmin until late in June, so that's a few uncounted miles.

But I have only 100 miles in for 2018! That leaves 900 miles in 32 weeks (a little less). I need to run a little over 28 miles a week. Doable.

I needed a little extra motivation-- happy for the post- bump.

I used to do this regularly. No way it’s happening this year.

I'm at 625 currently. Running in the humid heat yesterday was really tough. Not sure if I'll hit my goals over the summer. Though I do plan on getting up at 5am to complete my workouts once my wife's school lets out.

Central Texas. I do most running in the mornings and that’s pretty decent until June.

Doable. Not saying I’m going to get it but doable.

Since my last post I did get a nice talking to from my wife about being obsessed with running and needing to tone it down. We’ll see what happens.

Wife not encouraging keeping in shape? That's not good, IMO. My wife runs, too, although slower and not as fast.
But, still she's a natural and can run a long distance with little training.

ha. not that.

it's more of the getting a 3 mile run in the morning, then getting another 5 while my oldest is at youth group. running in the morning.... then running after we go to gym together. or taking off a lunch and running. or running every saturday and sunday morning. or taking my kids bikes out to the trail and i run behind them trying to keep up.

those aren't every day occurrences by any means but at least one of them happen every week. definitely more of a "i don't want you to become obsessed" than not encouraging me to be fit.

also, she's recovering from foot surgery and i haven't gotten out of the house much. so when i do, it's to run.

I just bought some Nike zoom flys. Feel great. Can’t wait to run more than 2 miles in them.

Update for me:

I just reached the 500 mile mark yesterday.
Getting hard to get in miles with the summertime heat. Been having to log miles on a treadmill
Again, thanks to the OP for giving me this idea. and good luck to all out there that are trying the same.

One of the girls at the gym is trying to run the year in miles.

2018? 2018 miles.

I’ll have to ask her where she is right now. I think she did it for 2017.

Damn you sure that’s not KM?

I’m at 410. I live in the Bay Area so summer months is fine. I doubt I’ll hit 1000 but over 800 would surpass what I did last year which was just over 700. Good luck to all going over 1k

That’s a lot of oxidative stress. I would get a high quality grape seed extract supplement.
