I cut my dose in half this past Friday and today I am having a good bit of anxiety. I have noticed a ton of benefits from getting cutting down to half, more energy, better connecting with people, more ambitious, etc. Did you find your anxiety was little heightened while reducing medicine dose and it returned to normal once your brain adjusted?

ETA: Plan currently is to get off of it completely in 2 weeks but I guess we will see how things go.

That seems like an awfully quick reduction schedule. Talk to your doctor.

This is the plan he came up with. I was a very low dose of 50 mg.

Ok, so you’re likely talking about an antidepressant style of med and not a benzo. I don’t expect you to throw out your medical info on a message board so that’s not really a question.

I’ve had anxiety issues most of my life and take meds for it too. I don’t know if Im ready for a reduction because overall Im better, but I still have bad days. I feel like I’ve had some cognitive related issues due to the meds too. Im talking to my doc about it and don’t feel comfortable giving advice to you but I wish you all the success in the world of getting off the meds.

Is your doctor a GP or psychiatrist? I'd take the original dose if you are feeling physical discomfort. Sounds like you need to titrate at a slower rate.

How long have you been on it?

My wife weaned off an SSRI with that dose and had similar experience. A little bit of anxiety while weaning but the same positives you mentioned. She started doing more mindfulness stuff while weaning to kind of transition from one "treatment" to another

Thank you for the input. She has a manageable amount of anxiety now without any medication?

Yep! She talked with a therapist who recommended mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing, etc. since her anxiety wasn't coming from any specific source. It was just general anxiety. She's doing better now. All I can recommend is trying different things to see what works for you since everyone is different.

This is good advice. There is so much stimulation to life that it can be overwhelming. Anxiety is self inflicted since it is like the only disease that you choose to have (in that it is your own mental condition).

This is from Like Stories of Old. I think this youtube channel is pretty great for adding perspective to the human condition.

Try finding a therapist who specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Also, check out anxietynomore.co.uk
Acceptance will be the foundation for your recovery but diet, exercise, mindfulness, and clarifying/moving towards your values will help.
As others have said, go with your doctors recommendations when it comes to weening off medicine.

Seems awfully fast. We weaned off our daughter and it was a 6 week process. She was on 50 mg of sertraline.

How is this going for you, OP? Still a nervous Nelly? I say that with compassion, as I’m a nervous Nelly too.

A little anxious but manageable. Currently the benefits greatly outweigh having to deal with a little anxiety.

I am taking lexapro and it works great for me but I don't worry about ANYTHING. So when I become hungry at night I easily succumb to getting up and grazing. Everything else is fine, but I am gaining weight like crazy.
Not trying to get off of it yet, but this food attraction is nuts.
Good luck, I am sure you will be fine but I would consult again with your doctor. Sounds a little quick to me.

You should try GABA supplements.

Good luck OP.

I would say maybe try to get your doc to give you a low dose benzo for emergency breakthrough anxiety attacks once you get off the SSRI.

At least just to keep it in your pocket, I do that with my Xanax and it’s a comfort blanket knowing I have one on me in case I can’t push through it on my own.

I'm on 20mg and we are talking about reducing over months, not two weeks.
