I'm a fat dude working on getting skinny again. Currently 243 at 5'10. I forgot how much a pain in the butt tracking calories is, but it's the only way I lose weight (along with working out hiking/cardio). My goal for the next couple of weeks is to remove diet sodas mostly from my daily routine, remove acidic items (tomatos, large amounts of coffees, ect) as my acid reflux has been horrendous since my throat surgery. This week and next week I would like to stay under 1,800 calories while doing at least 5 workouts a week and an hour of cardio (usually walking) per day. Once I get myself back calories regulated, I'll start messing with the macros again. I personally do well removing most carbs from my diet.

I'm probably not the best person to give advice as I'm still trying to get everything correct myself. With that said, 1800 calories (FOR ME) was/is too low. I'm about your same size 5'9" 239 lbs. I started tracking calories a little over 3 weeks ago and focus on prioritizing protein. I was averaging about 2000 calories that first week and it was just too much of a deficit. I struggled to make it thru my lifting sessions. Since I've bumped my calories up to 2300-2400, the lifting sessions (5-7/wk) are back to normal and the weight has started dropping back off (8 lbs in 3 weeks).

lsu777 linked a good caloric calculator in the 1st post of the thread. That's part of how I figured out that my deficit was just too much.

Luckily I never really stopped, outside of a two month period following surgery.

lol good callout. tbh i haven't been much on TD or social media in general, either. Busy as shite. But diet is going about as you'd expect from me when not posting, too.

I once again had a Dr. appt and my lipid bloodwork while on keto was absolutely atrocious and, despite my saying I would stay in ketosis even if my bloodwork was bad, when confronted with the numbers I decided it's not really worth the risk given my family history.. so I went back to a high protein diet. Instantly gained 10lb back, feelsbadman. So, made very little actual fat loss progress while in ketosis.

So, now I'm tracking macros with an emphasis just on protein and calories. Did that for one week, but got hit with a stomach bug this weekend and re-lost those 10lbs in water weight We'll see where I shake out at over the next week, I assume in the ~268-270 range.

Still hitting the gym 3x a week. Today I asked the trainer for some supplemental strength training for the 'off' days to add some volume, as I feel ready for more.

Glad you're back from Easter break. I was about 212 when I started a little over a year and half ago with a 24% BF. I'm at 180 with a 12% BF for the last few months. I haven't been tracking and literally eating almost whatever I want. I'm getting a lot stronger but my appetite is absurd. Do you think I've just leveled out and it's going to be really hard to get under 12%? My goal was always 175lbs but I'm not really sure it's worth it.

Very true, and I suppose a bit of oversight on my part. When my total is 262, LDL 189, chol/HDL ratio > 5, and my doc is looking at me like "....well, we've been here before", I kinda wimped out lol. I haven't really studied cholesterol very much so I don't feel confident in arguing, either.

Having come off of keto, my hunger is okay now. I think the immense hunger I was feeling was rebound hunger from coming off of ozempic. Seems to be a common side effect of you don't slowly come down off of it, which I didn't because I suddenly couldn't get any.

so i personally advise people to get down to 12% and try and hold for 3 months. if you are able to do that eating intutively even better.

to get below 10% it takes a lot more discpline that it does to get down to 12% and it gets absurdly hard to hold.

so since you have been at 12% for a while, if you would like to get more ripped for summer, then you will have to get really strict, almost a dedicated diet plan strict or you will have to weigh everythign and be very strict on macros.

you can decide if its worth it or not. do you have a 6 pack and what is the final goal?

No change from last week. I hit my 10k steps per day target for the first time in a while (finally spring) but only tracked macros about half the week. Need to get strict on that. Still not lifting heavy, more rehab style workouts

Yes and I have no idea on goals. I’m wondering if I should just follow macros for a few weeks and see what happens.

Went a little heavy on the food yesterday, but started off this morning well with some fruits and I have a home made veggie stir fry for lunch. Plan on hitting a Chest/Tricep/Shoulder workout in at lunch.
