I have been on Keto and IF for the past month. Down 15 pounds. But that’s not the best part. The best part is I no longer feel tired. I have so much more energy. My glucose stays below 100 even after eating. My hair is growing back and crazy as it seems, my feet are no longer dry or cracking. Oh yeah NO MORE NIGHT SWEATS!!!!

Not gonna say it’s a miracle diet but holy hell i feel like it’s reversing my type 2

It is! There is documented evidence of the ketogenic diet reversing T2 diabetes in several subjects. The diet or as I like to call it WOE is lifesaving. Welcome to the team. Let me know if you have any questions or anything else!

If it's sustainable for you and you're making that kind of progress, keep going.

I can see why keto principles would be good for type ii. Good for you, man. Good luck.

Exactly.

As far as the OPs question goes, best thing to control blood sugar is long duration fasting combined with strict keto. When I say long duration I mean 72 hours of water fasting only.

Yes it is advised you combine Keto with IF for the best effects. In my opinion you should do a 72 hr water only fast to kickstart your body into ketosis. After that initial fast resume an 18 hour fast and 6 hour eating window daily. Eat a macronutrient profile of 75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbs but the biggest thing is you need to keep carbs <20g net carbs daily. If that is only 3% of your total calories then so be it. That is the only limit.

Keto in the most simple layman’s terms is your body switching from using glycogen as it’s primary fuel source to the abdundant amount of fat on your body.

This is not true to achieve ketosis

For some people...myself as an example, I’ve been doing this long enough and tested the limits. I can go to ~50g net carbs a stay in ketosis. For someone just starting out to guarantee they are staying in ketosis the guidance is <20g net carbs. This will guarantee you are in ketosis.

I do low-carb (nont strictly keto) with IF to control blood sugar - fellow Type 2 here. Sadly, I've heard of nutritionists that will recommend that T2's increase their carb intake which is rediculous (usually in the form of telling people to eat a ton of whole grains and fruits).

Funny thing is I travel a ton for work, and even when eating most of my meals in restaurants. This includes internationl - England is the toughest place for me so far. I'm able to keep my weight and blood sugar control in line just by picking the lowest carb thing on the menu.

If you're diabetic and do IF it's important to do it with some form of carbohydrate restriction. If your plan is to say, divide a 6 hour eating window it 3 meals 2 hours apart and you're heavy on the carbs - your blood sugar wont recover enough by the time the next meal and it'll just keep ratcheting up throughout your eating window.

From there there is some debate, as IF will still likely keep your average blood glucose OK (as will be measured by A1C), however there is belief that it's the height and duration of the spikes that ultimately will cause the tissue damage associated with diabetes.

If this is the case, than even if you're sub-100 throughout most of your IF period if you're averaging 180+ throughout your eating window you're not doing yourself any favors, even if by those numbers you're clocking in at a sub-6 A1C.

For non-diabetics and for type-2 diabetics whose endocrine failure is strictly insulin resistance, your insulin level will mirror what blood sugar does in those of us with failing pancreases. If you subscribe to things like the insulin-carbohydrate theory of obesity or inflammation, than you are also best served by restrictin carbohydrate intake as part of an IF regime.

I need some help tweaking my diet to get on track. I feel like I read all about folks following the diet and seeing all these great results in the first month and I'm over here with seeing a 1lb difference from where I started 1.5 months ago. Here's an example of a day's food intake:

Breakfast: 2 Egg cups(basically eggs, cheese, and bacon/sausage mixed and put in a cupcake tin and baked. Sometimes vegetables are added in), occasionally a few slices of avocado, black coffee no cream no sugar/sweetener

Lunch: Spinach leaves, some chicken(usually get a roasted chicken at the beginning of the week and pull off it for most of the week), shredded cheese, and greek dressing

Dinner: usually either chicken, beef/turkey, or steak and vegetables and I try to mix in some fat(avocado, cheese, etc)

I work out 3-4 nights per week, and do drink on the weekends(vodka diet tonic usually)

Think you can help me tweak this to start seeing some of the benefits? TIA

My first question is are you using a macro tracker such as carb manager? That’s the first step...

You have some hidden carbs in the vegetables that could be adding up.

Lunch: Spinach leaves, some chicken(usually get a roasted chicken at the beginning of the week and pull off it for most of the week), shredded cheese, and greek dressing

Again hidden carbs with the spinach as well as spinach being one of the most inflammatory foods you can eat. I would cut that out also cut out the chicken it’s too lean.

Again cut out the chicken, turkey, and vegetables.

I’m fairly certain you are not tracking your macros or not following a ketogenic protocol with is 75% fat, 20% protein, and 5% carbs. You are eating way too much lean meat. You need to control for calories and put yourself in a slight deficit. Download carb manager or MFP and I put your stats and select a ketogenic macro profile and go from there.

Off topic.. how do you take this? I got some super pure extra virgin cod liver oil back in may this year and after 3v weeks or so I was gagging at every serving and gave up

I'm not a huge fan of fish in general
