I personally like to take it easy on race week. I’ll usually do something like 4/speed/3 T/W/Th and take a couple days off (Fri/Sat) before a race. I definitely wouldn’t run 5 the day before, but that’s just me.

Thanks. Yeah, I want to do something this week, but that just didn't seem right to me. I plan to lay low on Friday and Saturday.

Are all runners provided a time chip? Crazy how long it takes to get all those runners across the start line.

Yeah. There were 70k+ runners, there were still people finishing when we were heading out to dinner. That’s a long day.

What’s the qualifying/entry process like?

My brother and I tried to get in thru the lottery but didn’t get drawn, so we raised money for a pancreatic cancer charity, Project Purple. I heard less than 20% of lottery entrants get accepted so I think a lot of people go the charity route.

No clue on qualification. That unfortunately isn’t in the cards for me

Yeah I glanced at the qualifying times and that’s nowhere near an option for me either I’d say ever, so was just curious how you got in.

I have a half in the middle of my marathon training program. It calls for rest the two days before the half. I use Hal Higdon fwiw.

Just chiming in also. I wouldn’t run Saturday, and probably no more than 2-3 easy if any on Friday

When I had a coach, it was usually a full rest day two days out, then like a mile run with pick ups the day before. If you ever get that heavy or slow leg feeling after a rest period, this is supposed to help with that. 1 mile shouldn't phase you in the least for marathon training. Really easy with 15 seconds of picking up to race pace, never letting the lactic acid build up or anything.

Any of you guys run with a headlamp? If so, any recommendations? I purchased a cheaper, off brand waist lamp a couple years back that is no longer holding a charge.

I don't but there are times when I would want one where the street lights are few and far between around town

Put in 10 miles this morning. Halfway through I got absolutely soaked in no man's land with nowhere to go.

Logical people check the radar before heading out. Not this guy this morning. I just trudged on and cussed myself because I was walking with my new phone listening to music. It could have been bad

this one has been pretty money. my only issue is that it is not small when it gets light and i want to take it off my head and put it in my pocket. but no complaints other than that. holds a charge forever.

I think I’ll hop in this 10 miler this Saturday and just use it as my long run for the week. Registered for the Big Easy 1/2 a week later.
