Did some speed work today as a 30 minute progressive Fartlek. Sprints felt good. Had some calf irritation last night and this am, but the sprints seemed to have helped. Did some stretching and Plyo work after, so that could have factored in. I’ll take it.

Ok, got a marathon (90% sure of signing up for this) in mid February.
15 weekends away.

I'm going for the long runs each week of something like this:

12 miles
14
16
18
20

12
14
16
18
20

12
16
20
12
Marathon

Any thoughts?
Of course, I'll try to get 3-4 runs during the week of around 3-5 miles each. Not easy to do working full-time.

What’s your mileage like right now?

I've been running at least 10 + miles (but not much more) on a long run each weekend for almost all of 2018.
I'm working on 1000 miles for 2018. Just been pretty hot to run long runs the last few months. Had to run in a gym.

I know this is a running thread but I walk a lot. Like a lot

I've put in 35+ miles this week starting Monday. I just finished up a 7 mile walk this evening and my legs are shite. I could barely make it up the stairs to my apt

I'm hoping they are better at 4am because I'm going to push it again. They always suck at the end and when I'm "normal" walking

It has been shown that you essentially burn the same calories running as you do walking when comparing distances.

I don’t believe I’m very popular for saying so but long runs are more about time on your feet than distance as far as what your body can handle.

I think the experts agree that the rule is no longer than it takes you to race a marathon or 2:45 max, whichever comes first.

The distances look great, watch your time and if your form falls apart, you should stop.

Cheers.

After walking for about an hour and a half, I need to sit down. Only for a few seconds but if I go over 2 hours, I'll sit a couple times. 7 miles this morning

Had to get it in early because bad weather is coming. My coworkers hate me

I'll get in as many steps in one day as they'll log all week

I think that’s amazing. I don’t have the patience for walking like that.

It really takes some mental toughness. I'll get about 4 miles from my apt and I'll think, frick, now I've got to walk all the way back. The last half mile or so and I hate myself. Then I'll sit on the couch and say, job well done and then I'll go to work for 10 hours

It's not the walking that would bother me directly. It would be the time. Just takes so much longer. I often like to end a run 2 miles from my house. It's a nice walk back home. Cool down and just walk and clear my head. I hate just ending my run at the front door. But those days where I run 7 miles from my house expecting to run 7 back and hit the wall with 5 miles left...….they suck. Not because the walking hurts...I actually think it's good to walk out all the miles I just put in. It just makes it sooooo much longer than I planned.

Hmm seems like a different training program than I’m used to seeing. Any reason to not use a more traditional progression?

What's the point of building, then falling back so far and taking a long time to build back up. I certainly see the benefit of building up to say 20 miles than every 4th week or so falling back to a long run of 12 to get a bit of extra recovery for that one week. But no reason to build to 20, then take another full 4 weeks to get back up to that mileage.

But admittedly, I have limited personal experience and only know the few training programs I have used. So far from an expert.

4 @ 7:51 got a ways to go if I realistically want to flirt with a 45:00 10K on 12/2.

4 miles at 8:23 pace after work. I like Thursdays because Fridays are rest days.

Very sloppy tempo today. I want to blame the weather but I really don’t have an excuse at this point because I know better . I’m pretty fast right now and getting faster which the bright side.

@ TR

Saw your run and I think you could be getting close to a breakthrough. Gotta get your head right and the adrenaline will help push you over. I’m rooting for you.

Eh? Eh? Anyone see what I did there?

What's everyone's current height/ weight #nohomo

I've actually gained about 5 pounds the last couple months despite the arse load of miles I've logged. I am hungry all morning and eat like a fat kid.

I'm at 6' and 150#

I still have herion dreamer veins in my arms and probably weigh less than any female in my office

If I didn’t know any better I’d think you’re trying to motivate me? Ha, I need some of your blood if you’re complaining about that run you had today!
