I know why. Because it feels like you’re dying and your brain is like “yup, this is the end”.

I know this is the wrong thread, but I'm a sucker for discontinued, discounted model running shoes. If I ever get back to sub 1:40:00 halfs, I might open up the wallet and buy some of the newer, energy return shoes. But for now, I'm good with 2016/2017 models. Just scooped up a pair of Adizero Boston 6 for $50. Figure it's well worth the try at that price. Anyone have any experience with these? Reviews would be much appreciated.

To stay on the topic of speed work, I've readopted the Fartlek method. This is what I mostly used in high school and after. Gives me confidence on longer runs that I can safely speed up when the pace is slowing without fear of draining the tank.

all of my shoes are discontinued models. i scour Marshall's, Ross, Burlington, and Burke's for old model shoes. they're hard to find, but i have ghosts 9s i got for $75, skechers go run ultras for $27, gorun 600 for $20, NB 1080s for $60, etc.

i've spent a shite ton because i'm a shoe nerd, but i've probably saved $2-300 dollars buying previous models.

Think this will be my method from now on also. I’m nowhere near fast or experienced enough to notice a difference between Ghost 9,10,11, etc.

BnG - I’m a fan if fartleks also. Will get back on them tomorrow. Gonna squeeze in 6 relaxed, easy today.

Got in a slow 6 mid day today. 9:11 pace. Mid day sun is back and kicking. 63 dewpoint but as hogbody mentioned earlier, it felt worse. 82 feels like.

2nd page of the shoe thread I reviewed the energy boosts. Not the same model but is the same midsole.

It appears as though some of your drawbacks to the Energy Boost were addressed and corrected with the Adizero Boston. The Adizero Bostons don't appear to have nearly the stiff upper parts as the Energy Boost. And for $50, I would gladly put on only 300-350 miles before retiring.

I think you’re really going to like them. Boost is an amazing material.

Easy 5 this morning. Was still worn out from the 19 miler on Sunday, so I finished with a slower pace than I would have liked.

In other news, I realized today - kinda randomly - that the Mercedes Marathon in Birmingham has video of every finisher. I know this was almost a year ago, but I let out a loud gasp at the sight of my form. It was horrid. Arms swinging across my body like I was throwing punches at invisible objects. My right leg was doing this weird swing out thing and I just looked all around like not-a-runner.

Ordered one of these today. “Mighty Unplugged”. Plays Spotify playlists without lugging a phone around. I’m starting to loathe carrying the damn thing around in a belt/pocket, etc. I had to get a new iPhone a couple days ago due to cracked screen, glitching, etc. It was bascially unusable. Thinking the wear and tear, sweat from running probably didn’t help it.

Got in 4 today after work. 32:10 over 4 miles and starting to consistently see sub-8:00 miles in my runs.

Now I hope and pray I don't pick up an injury or illness in the next 10 days.

Got 5 miles in this afternoon. Super windy out today. I ventured off into some trails and mountains near my house with a good bit uphill but it felt good.

Going to try and do all my runs next two weeks around 4:30 PM.

Same here. Sorta. Needed 8 miles. Did 2 crappily and quit. I’ve felt fog headed, lethargic, and irritable since Sunday. Think I might take tomorrow off too and regroup on Friday.

Today was 6 miles for me as well. I thought I had a trash run but ended up with an 8:38 pace with tons of energy left over. Next four days include 2 four mile runs and an eight mile run.
