Just ran my first half over the weekend. 2 hrs. First 9 felt great and the last 4 felt fairly awful.

Running in the louisiana half in january. I would like to set a reasonable yet difficult goal. Is dropping 10 minutes a reasonable goal for the next 11 weeks? If not, what is? I spent about 3 months training for this half from doing zero running in several years.

Sounds like a typical first time experience. I ran my first half way too fast for 8 miles. Sub 9 minute pace and finished the day with a miserable 2:37.

2nd half two months later was 2:12.

I think you can do it. Just keep training hard and sleeping well. Eat right. You can knock off 10 minutes easily.

I go between Gu and Cliff gels. Both will give you a new found respect for chicks that swallow.

Will be visiting the in laws soon Madisonville and will need to get a 14 or 15 mile run in. Running by their house is miserable. Only thing that ever stopped me from driving out to the trace is me not knowing much about it. Are there water fountains? I've become spoiled with not having to carry water or planning ahead to put water out.

They have trailheads with restrooms and fountains every five or so miles. There is also the state park you can run through. It's a little bit of a drive from Madisonville where I live, but it gives me an opportunity to wake up and eat a little. Let me know when you're in town and maybe we can meet up.

Tweaked my back a little this morning lifting

Hopefully it’s minor and doesn’t cause any issues running

take it easy. you've been killing it lately.

3 mile tempo run today. i knocked off a dickhead that was ahead of me on a few segments on strava today. didn't get KoM, but the top guy runs about a 5 minute mile and is an all around beast. felt good to get ahead of the other guy though.

What’s KoM? I feel like I can be getting more out of Strava. Is there a way to search local runners/routes? I can always use extra motivation. I only really follow the TD people.

KoM- King of the Mountain. It started from the cycling side of strava. I really don't know how to look up segments, but if you run through a segment on your route, it will show up in the little trophy section and you can see how you stack up. Then you can try harder next time if you so desire. If you live in a quiet area, it's likely not going to have much. But if you lived somewhere like around the LSU lakes or something, I'm sure there are tons.

I don't pay much attention to them, but there are a lot around me, both cycling and running. But wayyyy too many fast people. For instance I was like 800th on a recent segment, then realized it was on the marathon course near me and gets run by 100's of people every year.

Oh yeah, I remember seeing some trophies when I was running at the Hospital a couple weeks ago. Took second in the mile on the Women’s walking trail. Lol

assuming iphone and android are alike...

use more in the bottom right --> Segment Explorer --> Zoom in on an area and search or redo search.

i find all sorts of places with a traveling job this way.

i pick and choose my segments to go for. one recently had 100s of people that have ran it and i hauled arse and got second. that was pretty crushing. i'm 147/12956 for the sprint in front of the Bellagio Fountains. that's probably my crowning achievement.

A guy on my street coached cross country in college (and I assume ran himself) and does personal coaching now. There is a 1 mile track right by us I use for intervals. Not only does this guy crush most segments, he brings his clients to that track for interval work. So from their track workouts and running all the trails around me, the KoM's from my front door aren't low hanging fruit.

I’ve got most around my neighborhood. There’s a few I haven’t gotten to yet and one I just don’t think I can get.

.5 miles at 4:38 pace is just beyond me.

2 road races left this year.

Run for the Parks 15k goal 58:30

Run Bentonville Freedom Frosty 5k goal 17:50

Recent bests are 101 and 1802 respectively so I think they’re in reach.

Then I have a couple trail races before I reset my training.

Let’s end the year strong.

I’d say you got those.

I signed up for the Big Easy Half 11/17. Price started at $1 and goes up every so often, so I got in at $60. Rather than pay $100 the week before/of.

Gonna make an effort to get in a speed day every week between now and the Death Valley 10K beg of December. I have gotten away from speed days the last month or so, for whatever reasons.
