Wasn’t comparing 5 miles to phone call breaks. It was a joke. Running 13 at pace without stopping I think is pretty damn good reality check. Life happens but some of his runs have 20+ minute stoppage time.

Never done a marathon myself but running/racing a half at your goal MP seems to be a staple in a bunch of the plans I've looked at. Probably not a bad idea

Lately I've been doing this because I run with the stroller for the first 30-40 minutes, bring him home so Mom can feed him, then go back out for another 20-30 solo. It seems like I always get stuck making a bottle or feeding the dog during that break

I used a run stroller exactly one time. The roads were bad where we lived when we started our family and I thought my daughter would have shaken baby syndrome if I kept going after the first mile, so that was that.

The russell forest 10k last month was a great one, the entire property out there is really nice. The app they have so you essentially can never get lost out there is a huge plus for those runs where you just want to explore new trails.

A lot of plans actually have your racing a HM - actually a bit faster than your Marathon Pace. For instance my goal is around a 7:30ish pace for the marathon, I should have gone out to a HM during this training cycle and attempted a 1:30 half (7:00ish pace). I ended up missing that window due to kids activities and needing to be around on the weekends instead of being off at a race.
Every weekend the last 3 weeks and the next 3 are packed full of crap I have to do, so I'm just trying to hang on til the end.
ETA: doing the HM stuff should be about 7 to 8 weeks before your Marathon - it's usually a good "boost" going into the final build cycle.

Got a twingy left hammy. Opting out of the Statue this year. I could run it, but question whether I could race it. Been focusing on lifting for the last month or so anyway (which is how I twinged my hammy).
Thinking about camping out at the top of Stone River with something like this:

There was a stretch where I could get two hours in the running stroller out of my daughter. did 14 miles with her one day when she was 23 months old. Just looked at the strava, late September, starting temp 79 degrees with a feels like of 86 so had to be pushing 90s by the time i was done. I don't know what i was thinking training for half in the summer. For that half i was training for we'd end up at a splash pad just so i could cool off. It was during that brutal 2023 summer
Did a lot of 6 miles with the dog, drop her off take the kid for the rest of the workout, and then headed to the park when I was training for the marathon.
Now I am lucky to get 30-40 minutes out of her before she is demanding to go to the park
now a days i am just getting up earlier and earlier to work out or run or else i don't have time. Crubs my beer drinking some so that's good.

?? I mentioned the elapsed time bc I noticed at 25 min gap on a 10 miler and 45 min on a 20 miler. These are in the past 2 weeks or so. Could be outliers but I can do a lot of recovery in 25 minutes.

Goggins saying "don't be a bitch" would be more to the point.

Between Goggins and a couple hardcore buddies of mine, I have a pretty good mental repertoire of motivational speakers with very short and poignant sayings in that vein that keep me going sometimes.

I just repeat in my head "you really are a dumbass, congratulations you dumbass, what are you doing?!?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!?!"

I will say a lot of my runs are during my daughters track practices which is are a park/softball field and seeing all the fat beer gut softball dads waddling around is pretty motivating to never end up like that.

Sorry to hear that man, I know you love that race so that's a bummer that you are going to miss it. I'm not going this year, I can't race it and no part of that race is good training for my marathon so I opted out

It's my favorite race for sure. I could run it, but don't want to push it racing. I put in 7 miles last night and it's getting better, but not to the point of turning in a good time.
Plan on being at the bottom of Stone River where it meets Brookwood. Kid in my office says he wants to run it. Transferring my bib to him today.

13miles at 11:32 pace.
~ 10:20 pace for the first 8 then threw in some walk running for the last 4. Trying to train in the hottest part of the day to get acclimated to a June/July race.

I'm at pre-race for the Bootlegger 100 right now. Having a Q&A session with Jeff Browning. Pretty cool to tap his knowledge. Guy is an ultrarunning legend.
