Up to you. I'm doing the Louisiana half so I'll just post my update here once I inevitably blow up

I'm gonna be a mad SOB if it's frigid on race day. I've been checking the weather thread on the OT to see if we're going to get snow

That wouldn't be great for the marathoners but my arse would be home drinking a beer by the time it hits 61. I'd take 50s at race time

Starting feels like temp of like 45 is ideal racing weather IMO.

There are some crazy people in this thread. A few of us (I think there are 3 or 4?) get a kick out of running insane distances. You'll learn who they are - ks is the King of the ultra distance in this group.

ETA: So I have 2 friends turning 40 this year and 1 turning 37. All of them want to run the distance of their age for their birth and all of them are during my off season. I think I'm going to run with all 3 of them

7 miles total. 3 base at 140HR. 3 tempo at 160HR. 1 base at 140HR. Beers and burgers. Felt good after a two day layoff.

Did the Cowtown last year and it was 60 to start. Got up to the 80s by the time I was coming into the finish line. All thanks to a south wind blowing at 20mph which meant Miles 7-18 were straight into that headwind. Absolutely brutal. Most of the elite field didn't even bother showing up. Only 4 elites actually started - and none of the women elites started, which meant the 3:10 pacer was the women's winner.

I think the ideal marathon temperature is in the 30s with a dew point below 20. Unfortunately out of the 11 times I've ran the 26.22 distance, I've gotten that exactly once. Only 1 out of 11 times has the start temperature been below 50. 4 times temps have reached 80+ including one where it was 95. I am not the luckiest with weather.

If king of ultras means almost having a great race but somehow always fudging it up then yes I sadly wear the crown. Some think long distance is crazy but I get to do it with my SO who for the most part is better at than me. We’ve traveled all over the country for races. Seen some beautiful places you would never consider gong to otherwise

there’s a Baton Rouge guy that might still read this thread that’s the real ultra king with a sub 14 hr 100 miler.

Marathon race temp of 40 is pretty perfect for. Can run in singlet if sunny. Under that and waiting around the start line gets unpleasant and takes a little too long to get warmed up.

I'm trying to convince my wife to do a week long "trip" to Boulder to do some running, then the San Diego world road running champs 5k all-comers race in September. She doesn't run so it's going to take some real schmoozing

Zone HR / pace question

i understand that pace per zone varies from one person to the next but does HR range for each zone? Is there a standard HR range for each zone, such as Zone 2 is HR 125-140 or does the vary based on the individual?

last two weeks in BR weather was 65 came back to bozeman yesterday and its low 20's and now almost 6" on snow on the ground. anyone want to come run that perfect temp marathon?

Varies based on max heart rate. Zone 2 is 60-70 of max heart rate

It’s an individual measure. Simply, it’s a percentage of estimated Max HR. Better is a percentage of measured Max HR. Best is a measure of VO2 and lactate threshold.

15 miles today in Zone 2. Faded really hard after about mile 12. Skipping a couple of days this week really hurt I think. Well, that and the 1300’ of climb in my route. Still averaged 11/mile pace.
