5 miles after work, 8:17 average with 300ft elevation gain. I'm ready for Sunday's race. Forecast is mid 50s for the start.

Watching the race on TV. Even with the heat, current pace is 2hrs.

Unofficial time for my 15k is 1:12.13, about 4 four minutes faster than my finish in 2019. The cooler weather definitely helped.

Official 1:12.02. Goal was 1:13.

Hell, you might not even know you were watching a running race with all the wheelchair coverage and commercials. Commercial time has to be about 2 to 1. Might as well be trying to watch a football game on CBS.

Burt,

What were those Nikes that all the top finishers had on? That’s what all the people that beat me in my 5K were wearing.

Vast majority (men) were running the next percent 2s. I think only the female winner was wearing the alphas and the rest of the women’s podium were in ASICS.

Yup, miserable. Hot, humid, swirling winds. I was cruising until my body said FU, you’ve ignored the conditions but now you will feel them. I was on pace for 3:45 and I was so happy then it fell apart. Last 5K was brutal. Still a PB by 4 mins but shite it should have been so much better.

3 miles today at a 9:35/mile pace. Average HR 150 and 300’ of climb. Easy miles on Sunday.

I had a plan and like boxing, everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. Told myself I was going to basically split it up into 3 races. First 8 to few out the heat and wind. If I felt good after that, crank it up on the next 10, and then use the crowd and momentum to take me the last 8.

All of that went to shite pretty early on and I decided to just try and run my pace that I’ve trained for and it worked for roughly 23 miles. I’ve got one mile in there where I stopped to pee but other than that I cruised. Calves were so beat up I was heel striking the last 2 miles just to be able to run.
