I've created an interesting route. Y'all will see in a few days

I've been dealing with some nagging lower calf pain after I ran some intervals on a wet road a couple of weeks ago. My calf didn't get sore until the very end of the run, and I didn't feel a pop and really only had minimal soreness. I've tried running twice since, and both times I ended up getting some slight soreness after the run but during the run I felt fine. Any advice to get over this? No running for a couple of weeks? Just take it easier and ice and maybe stretch?

Also, I got the new balance rebel v2 in two days after straining my calf. They're really a lot of fun to run in, but I'm going to hold off on reviewing them until I can do more than trot around for 1 or 2 miles.

Got in a run this morning and tried a guided interval run through NRC. I was shocked at the difference it made to have my focus on the speaker instead of how long I had left. It really let me get into a rhythm where I was letting my body run and getting my mind out of the way. Total I got in 3.5 miles with a 10:30 pace which is definitely progress.

Let's talk running before the sun is up.

Does anyone here run with a headlamp or clip-on lights of any sort? I am considering getting a clip-on light because I need to wear a hat because I sweat so much. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also interested and would prefer a clip on. These shorter days are making it pretty dark.

No headlamp or clip on light for me. Granted, 99% of my runs are on lighted sidewalks. When I have to cross streets, it can be a little scary but I know which intersections I need to be cautious with.

I tried a headlamp at one point and it just annoyed the hell out of me. I kept wondering why my head was moving so much when I ran so I overcorrected and my neck hurt the next day.

Clip on strobe for years here. Set it to flash and forget it. I wouldn't recommend a headlamp unless your on trails where you have obstacles, or somewhere out in the boonies (or really poor eyesight).

Head lamps are actually blinding to everyone else but the wearer. Cars, other runners, bikes... ain't none of us can see shite when you got that thing pointed at our eyes.

15 total this morning 9 of them at "marathon tempo". In refinement. Interval workout Saturday.

Feel like the weather for Sunday keeps getting worse every time I look at it. Along with the "like summer" temps, wind seems to be picking up as well. Expectations and plans are shifting.

Wasn't feeling it today. Only did 5 miles at 9:15/mile with average HR of 155.

I had a great easy five this morning (9:58 pace). My heart rate was 144! It's never been close to that low before.

Tomorrow I have the sprint intervals I skipped on Monday: 4 x 0.50 mi at 7:24/mi pace with 2 min rest intervals.

My HR average this morning was 131. I think I was running too slow, but I was making phone calls which kept my pace down.

Mercedes Marathon 17 Weeks Away

Putting together my training plan now for the Half Marathon. Using part of the Hal Higdon Intermediate 2 plan and all of the Advanced Plan. Runs (5) days a week with a cross train day in there so basically what I'm doing now except the speed work.

Speed work is Weds and it's mostly intervals 8 x 400 or 3 x 1600 or 6 x 800. Just a couple of tempo runs in there.

Feel like I have a reasonable goal of 1:45. Just want to have fun and not hurt something really.

5.5 miles tonight @ a 9:35 pace. Average HR 174 and 600’ of climb. Cut a mile and a half off tonight as it’s getting darker earlier. Didn’t feel as strong as last week but these hills tonight are shorter and steeper.
