Do we talk about this here or get a separate thread? I have all kinds of questions about this.

Got some new shoes and worked up a tender spot on my right navicular bone. I guess 6 miles the first day in the new shoes was too much. I had to skip my run yesterday, but I am going to put padded tape on my foot and the inside of that shoe until I break them in more.

I still have a long way to go before I get my base where I want it, but April was my best month so far this year. I doubt I will be racing until fall, but my goal is to be in the best shape of my running "career" by then.

What’s going on in Chicago? I don’t know anything about it but now I want in.

Do you have to qualify or simply signup?

Assume this event will be packed. Is it too late to consider going?

I think you can still get in through a charity, but otherwise:

Aubie

Chicago does have qualifying times which are 5 or 10 minutes slower than the Boston Standard times. Other option is general lottery sign up and hope you get pulled. Charity looks like you have to raise $1250 to get entry. Start planning for 2022 if you are interested.

I hit the lottery. I’m guessing no international runners because of Covid so a lot more lottery entrants.

Appreciate the input from you guys. I tried slowing down a bit and my breathing did become a little easier. At the same time, beat my PB pace by 18s.

My only issue now is my legs getting a little tired. My distance is a little shorter but my next runs I’m going to push a little farther. I’d imagine the only thing to do here is keep exercising and they’ll get stronger. Just going to keep pushing.

Look identical to my starting times. Keep at it and build a good base of miles, then start working on getting faster (if that's your goal).

Is that running the whole time? That’s a good pace to work on building miles.

Anyone know if Fontainebleau or Mandeville High allow public access to their tracks? Or anywhere on the north shore that does?

Running a 5k this weekend with my 13 year old niece, whose fasted time so far is 33 minutes.

She tells me she wants to run 26 minutes this weekend.

Should I try to talk her to a more achievable goal?

Or should we just go for it and if she blows up, chalk it up as a learning experience?

No sir. Stopped and walked 2-3 times. But only walked for 15-20 seconds. Just enough time to get comfortable with my breathe again and start again.

Do you plan to get a run in with your niece before the race? Can you have her try out the target pace for a mile with you?

I'm always for people attempting their goals as long as they are comfortable with failure.
