The fact that y’all did it together is awesome. I wish I could get my wife to do one with me. Someone told me to just enjoy the day because you will always remember the experience of your first marathon no matter the time.

Welp, tested positive for COVID today. No wonder that race was so brutal. Wonder if it means I’m in 1:25:00 shape sans COVID. Haha

That’s pretty funny...also sort of concerning that you tested positive so soon after an in person race. Sort of lends credence to why we couldn’t have in person races for so long.

Right there with you. My run today came in just under 26 minutes for a 5K. I think even with a flat course I'd struggle with a 24 minute 5K.

I’m shooting for 22-23 this weekend. I need to keep up at my training. I seem to hit a mental wall at this point and stop running. Then start it all over again 6 months later.

I’m 27 shooting for 24. My 10k pace is faster than my 5k. Is that unusual? I guess I need to warm up first?

Best wishes for obtaining your goal. I don't think I'll be back in that range until early May.

We have the red river 10k this weekend. Nice to have a race that actually gets to happen. Hoping to be around 46-47 . Didn't do too well with this one last year so we'll see.

If anyone in NWLA or NELA is looking for a trail race to extend the season, look into "The Old School" @ Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston.

Saturday April 3

Distances: 5, 10, 20 and 30.

I'll be doing the 30. Hoping to get out there for a test drive soon, I have never run at LPP.

Looks like it will be 10 mile loops. Looking forward to some new scenery for sure.

I will probably sit my arse down for a little while after this one.

How is this even possible?

Maybe you pace yourself better for the longer distance. Are you going out too fast for the 5K?

I’m not sure. When I look at my Strava my PR for 10k is faster. I probably just need to run for a 5k PR again as I think I’ve made a lot of gains in the last few months. My first 2 miles is always my slowest though.

Yeah. Getting even mile splits is more crucial for the 5K. That's one of the biggest challenges for that distance. If you go out too fast, you fizzle out during mile 3. If you are too conservative in the first mile or two, then you can't make it up during the last mile.

You might want to do a time trial as part of your training before your next 5k. That will help you get a better idea of where you target pace should be on race day.

I also like to work up to a race specific workout of 3 X 1-mile @ target 5K pace with 1-minute jogging recovery intervals to do 1-2 weeks prior to a 5K race. If you can finish that workout at or near your target pace, then you know you can hit those on race day.

21:40. Had a little more in the tank probably but I’ve really been training for a 10k and my 5k feel isn’t quite there. Happy with that time though

Ran the red river 10k in alexandria today. Finished just a couple secs over 48 mins. Not happy with my finish at all. Was cruising until mile 5 when I just bonked. I think it was a combo of the warm/muggy weather and taking out a little too hard. Still grateful to get out and do a race. I'll get it next time .

Yeah the quick warm up has me off too. I went from hardly sweating to being drenched
