Louisiana Marathon is scheduled for next weekend. Anyone running? Anyone heard if it is going to take place for sure?
temps keep inching up for that sunday. low 50's to start but may warm up fast if cloud cover doesn't stick around.
I've been holding off registering because since no interest in a virtual or entry for next year.

man, if they cancelled one week out after rescheduling that would be awful. i am guessing at this point it goes? would they really have the balls to cancel this close?

Pretty sure it’s a go, but Oschner is out as main sponsor. I guess the optics aren’t that great for them to sponsor during pandemic. I switched from Full to Half since I already did a Full in Houston on the original La date. And yeah, temps looking pretty rough. 65F/65 dewpoint/100% humidity. Same as it will be this weekend for early runs.

Tomorrow is the day I am making myself run the virtual 5K that my college alumni group sponsored. Aiming for sub 24:00. Walked out a course today with minimal traffic disruption. First race since 2019 NOLA Turkey Day.

Good luck, Jay! This morning was tolerable considering it’s 70F/70 dewpoint/100% humidity. Cloud cover makes all the difference.

Well that was a fail. Too hot. Achilles is hurting. Ran first kilometer great then 2nd was not good and I pretty much gave up. Going to try again next week.

I am running the full. It will be my first one. I had some great runs across December and January but the cold fricked me up in February. Was shooting for sub 4 hour and now feel like I will just be happy to finish.

Two Friday nights ago, I drank a bunch with friends. The next day and despite the hangover, I ran 7 miles in cool Tejas weather and it was effortless. My avg HR was 157.
This past Friday night, I had one drink and got in bed at 10. I ran 7 in slightly muggy and foggy Mississippi. My avg HR was 175. It doesn’t make sense. I’m not sure my watch was accurate as it had me at 181+ for the last four miles and instantly shot up to 160+ within the first quarter mile.
What gives?

I find when I have caffeine before my heart rate spikes more quickly.

Dewpoint? Direct sunlight? Both (especially sunlight) will elevate mine rather quickly.

yeah i'm seeing 44 as the overnight low so hopefully that will stick around for a bit before the sun breaks out full blast. 7am start doesn't help. interested to see how the trial time starting is going to work. hopefully staging is based off of previously recorded times so you don't have to weave through traffic.

Been running just fine thank you. My Strava runs are private but you can see my mileage total.

Anyone have any watch recommendations? My Forerunner 35’s HR tracking feature seems to be failing. Anyone have a new Apple Watch or a polar watch they care to review?
For reference, I’m running a half marathon in April and a 70.3 triathlon in October. I don’t need too many advanced features. I won’t pore over advanced data statistics. I like simplicity and accuracy.

If you're wanting accuracy get a chest strap for HR. wrist rates are highly inaccurate from what I've read. for good gps and battery there are good reviews on coros pace 2. I have older sunnuto ambit peak 3. gps and battery is good. the elevation reading has a mind of its own depending on the day especially in the city. seems to be better on trail in the mountains.
