I love my run group. They run every Sat 12 miles or more rain, shine, or snow. I do Tues/Thurs/Sun by myself but would love to fill some of those in with group runs. There’s a Sun AM run group, but I’d have to not drink on Sat to go to that one.......

This heat and humidity is unbelievable right now. I'm only able to do half of my usual distance and I'm absolutely drenched in sweat like 30 minutes in. I've started wearing swimming trunks because my shorts are soaked afterwards lol.

Man, I know it’s beating a dead horse at this point, but holy shite it’s hot. I couldn’t convince myself to go farther than 5.25 today. Was plodding along at 9:30/9:40 pace and could feel my heart rate creeping up, just not worth it.
Edit:
at us posting the same thought at the same time

We bitch about this every year and I’m sure Burt is cringing reading this (us bitching), but I’ve been seeing people bonking all over Strava due to heat. Hell, I had one last week. I’m not sweating it (hehe) as much as I normally do. Allowing my mileage to dip, hitting the treadmill when the heat is unbearable/dangerous, etc just to keep my legs somewhat alive. Boy, but that first cool snap though!

No more marathon pace runs for me. I’m gonna add an extra interval day instead. It’s just too damn hot.
I am theoretically supposed to start MGCM training in mid August, so maybe then.

Guilty. Two days in a row. I thought I was going to knock out 6 today. Mother Nature had something else in mind.
I'm going to attempt to do nothing but early mornings until I can get to race pace over those 6 miles.

Glad to see it isn’t just me.
I put in 6 miles yesterday after the rain. Best I’ve felt in week. Flat course and ran it well. Averaged 9:10 and my last mile was my fastest 8:45.
Anyone run with their dog? I have an Australian Shepherd that’s getting a little chunky. Ordered one of those waist leashes today. Thinking about starting Couch 2 5K for him on my off days. Any advice?

I tried running with my dog but she gets uninterested after a mile. My unprofessional advice would be to take it slow. If it’s hot for you, it’s hot for them...especially on pavement. Think I’m gonna wait til it cools down before trying to run with my pup again and do walks instead.

I run with mine sometimes but this time of year she won't have it. I think went half a mile the other day and she gave up. When it's cooler she'll go about 3 miles with me. I usually make a loop back to the house and drop her off if I need to go further. She loves it when it's not so hot.

I used to run some with my 45 lbs. Shepard mix and hate that I've let her get out of shape in the past couple of years. This time of the year, unless it's early in the morning, is not a good time for dogs to be running. And she'll need to get in shape like any human would, so baby steps to start.

I think I've decided to bake in the sun by running in the middle of the day vs deal with the humidity in the morning.
Rick, sucks to hear about your running mate. Maybe, we can work something out when you get closer to the longer miles to meet and run together.

Kballa,
Based on how well you have been handling running in the heat, I might be able to follow you on a bike haha.
I'll email you my dates once I get to 12+,thanks.
Like you , I make a daily deal with the devil to fight the heat or humidity and try to not get hit with both.
Hogbody,
It's fun to see you running at this level, excited to see what the fall looks like for you.

I agree on KBalla. Your paces look better to me in the heat, kudos. Me, on the other hand am suffering more than I have in the past it seems. It just seems even more oppressive than past Summers for some reason. Of course, I’m in worse shape, so there’s that.

There’s a ball park near me with a circle track of gravel. Probably start him there. Walk a lap and run a lap. Got the harness and waist leash today.
A lady in my run group has a veezla. The damn thing can run 10-15 miles and look around when people stop like “WTF?” Damn thing is a machine.

I run with my dog pretty religiously, although I’ve been reluctant to bring him on runs recently with this heat. His PR is 4 miles sub-8 minutes and he loves every second of our runs together.
My vet provided me with this general rule: if your dog is running to the side or in front of you, that’s an indication they’re okay. However, if he or she starts to trail behind, that’s an indication it may be time for a break. Recall that many very loyal dogs simply won’t stop as long as you are running with them, so it’s up to you to assess their ability to continue just as you would your own.

This makes it all worth it to me to run through the summer. I can honestly say it’s one of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced

Good info. I'll be taking it very slow with him.

The last two days I've been running without a shirt. I've always worn either a shirt or a tank whenever I've run because I've been a bit self-conscience about the top half of my body. But now the Summer of COVID has me not caring anymore and I'm leaving the shirts behind.
I think I'm dumb for not doing this earlier.
