Yep. Not even sure an American is going to finish in the top 10. Damn.

Nope, watching X cross the finish line, I can't imagine the feeling one has crossing that line first. Damn Americans went out strong and damn near killed themselves.

I’m glad Xavier won though. He should have won Hardrock last month. He deserves it.

Was going to try a 5k workout today since I have a race in 2 weeks. Goal was to do the first 2 miles at 30 seconds slower than goal pace (7:40) then the last mile.1 at goal pace (7:10). Wasn't feeling it at all once I hit 1.25mi, so I made a change on the fly. Workout became:

1.25 @ 7:40/mi pace
1.0 @ 7:20/mi
0.75 @ 6:50ish/mi
With 4:00 rest between each

Last rep I started at 7:00 pace and kicked it up to 6:00 pace for the last 200m. There was a tiny bit of stop-start for me to stretch for maybe 10 seconds during a rep but I didn't let it ruin my workout. I'd rather stretch than push through some tightness and get reinjured

If it's your body saying you shouldn't, don't. 46min 10k is good for a top 20 finish in most fun run races. Congratulations.

Thanks. It was good for top 25 and 3rd in 40-49 age group. Yeah, I've pretty much decided that today is football day and I'll throw in an extra few miles tomorrow.

Going to brave the humidity in the am. That false early fall has me all screwed up. But temp and dew point are manageable early tomorrow for a long slow run. Going for 30k.

I may try to up the pace for the Winship 5k route. 6 weeks to try to get under 7min mile for that. Long aerobic runs really help me on short fast runs. Beem doing some speed work on treadmill because it has been nasty out and so few places to run flat esp w shade.

Decided to get my long run in yesterday, rather than today due to work and the LSU game. It rained the whole time, with some of it pretty heavy.
5 miles @ 9:19 pace avg./160 BPM avg.

LSD 11.5mi 1h 30min Heart Rate 145bpm

Week total 45.4 miles 5h 51min

First 5k of the fall is 6 days away and I have no clue how fast I'm capable of doing it hehe. Top ten is the goal regardless of the pace because I know the weather will be hot garbage.

6 mile "long" run to finish this week. Hardest part was staying slow. Wasnt hot, but humid like a mofo. Sweat through my shoes in just 6 miles .

Speed and tempo work starts this week. Cool weather needs to get here fast.

I'm with you on this, brother.

Yesterday was 5.35 miles at a 9:37 pace. Today was my long run day; 9 miles at a 9:01 pace. Total miles for the week is 25. My shorts were soaked, my shirt was soaked, and I felt some slight knee pain around mile 7.

This week we back off and do 23 miles, but we are supposed to add in hill training. Should be fun, right?

This am's 30k started out nice but got hot around mile 16. I did my Winship 5k race route near beginning, but I accidentally turned down wrong street once--still basically same rt. I tried to finish my run with that rt again, but pussed out with about 3/4 mile left. It was hot and body said stop. I think 21 min is gonna be doable for that race.

I also think I'm ready for a slow, relatively flat marathon. Need to find one before baby comes (Nov 1), or else it probably isn't happening this year.
Today (rare urban route for me--I prefer the woods, but i did see some dragoncon freaks and a naked homeless man)--
Ave hr 150 (not bad for heat and humidity at that distance)

eta: 73 degrees my arse. Maybe when i first started, but I don't even think that's right. Accuweather said 77 and it was 71 dew point, sunny and mid-80s when i finished.

M:OFF
Tues: 8 (treadmill with 2 X :16 @ 7:20 pace)
Wed: 10 (road)
Thurs: 7 (lafreniere park) fast pace
Fri: 25 min bike and 20 min bodyweight workout (hamstring cramp doing hip bridges)
Sat: 17 (lakefront grass) up and over the levee 16 times to try and get some climbing in. It's all I got.
Sun: 8 (treadmill)
Total: 50 miles

This heat and humidity is killing me. Saturday's run was brutal. (Stopped multiple times to walk outside of my planned walk breaks). Doubt it got above 80 but humidity was incredible.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm figuring my last long run in 3 weeks MAY be cool.??

Yep. I had one Bell's last night. First beer in awhile. My body and mind have started reacting poorly to much alcohol but I think I'm gonna have a Creature Comforts Tropicalia or two to make it through this game.

3 hours of basketball is no joke. I miss pickup soccer. We used to beat up on the young Emory kids often. I suck at basketball.

4 miles this morning. Still breaking in the new shoes, so it was a tough run considering the low mileage.

Hiked a few miles with the fam afterwards.

My Altras are usually fine right out of the box, but the last pair had a new reinforced area at top od laces that ...really laced into me. They're broken in now and hopefully last longer than previous versions.

I, too, bought a pair of Altras that were fine.
That was a year ago.
Then I bought the exact same model and size again this year and the lace area down by the bottom lace dug into the top of my foot so bad, I could hardly walk. I've tried to " break them in" , but it just doesn't seem worth it. Still hurts.
May just relegate these to yard shoes. It chunk them.

Which Altras do y’all wear? Tried on a pair of Escalantes and really liked them, but Varsity didn’t have my size. Will probably order some soon. Would like to give zero drop a shot.
