Yea the uphill was a bitch, especially towards the end. A lot of people broke down there.

Seriously ? No I missed that. That’s pretty cool, I’m sure he was way towards the front. I started late since I was scrambling trying to find headphones. But as you said I really didn’t miss them.

Watched hia podcast with Ryan Hall that was posted a few pages back and he still looked pretty lean to me. Not sure how old the podcast was though, but he was training for Austin at the time.

I’m sure we are all used to seeing him at 3% bf

Is everyone over him being a dirtbag liar? Not kept up with him. Reformed prick? Mr. Nice guy now? If so, I can respect that.

Let's talk about Garmin Connect. Garmin make the best watches in the game but connect is problematic. Let me use yesterday's run for a few examples because Garmin's servers are down again.

8 mi., 670 calories (way low), Time 1:06 with a moving time of 1:03? I didn't stop once. Avg pace 8:11; moving pace 7:53 (I didn't stop running). Speed... etc. same shite. Elevation is always wrong.

What are my other options? Polar, Suunto? I think I'm ready to switch when this watch dies because I can't handle the Garmin Connect issues anymore. If my company produced software like this, I'd be kicking rocks and jobless.

I haven't kept up with him much either, but seems like he just flys low key, raising kids, etc.

Damn, I was going to start looking around at Garmins today. Having issues with the Polar M430 HR all of a sudden not working in the middle of a run and I have to manually transfer my runs from the watch to the app/Strava by holding down one of the buttons and waiting for it to complete the transfer. Aggravating at times when it either doesn't connect or is slow.

Don't the Garmins auto transfer?

Sometimes my garmin uploads my run as soon as I stop it. If I didn’t bring my phone for whatever reason, as rare as that may be, it’ll upload and give me a Strava notification that my run is ready as soon as I get back to the car.

As far as accuracy on graphs, time, etc. I don’t know the right answer.

Polar has great HR metrics but people I know that run with them have weird mapping issues.

Apple Watch is all over the map and I’m not sure that it could make it a half marathon on a single charge.

Fitbit is freaking amateurs in the running game. Not knocking their futures product as a whole but I know 0 legit runners that use them.

Suunto interests me but I don’t know enough about them. They really market themselves as hiking/hunting more than a pure running watch. I also think you have to manually upload your runs which is a deal killer for me. I think they have the sexiest looking watches on the market though.

Had some frustrations with my garmin the last two weeks. Mainly due to running on the river walk in SA and Strip in Vegas. I just don’t think it knew how to measure my pace in those tunnels. I was effing booking it in Vegas on one strip and it told me I was pacing 9:30 and I absolutely knew that wasn’t accurate.

From numerous people’s interactions based on second hand information growing up in Texas, nah. He’s a dick off the track.

I’m actually very forgiving of the cheating itself. His trying to burn other people and insert himself in politics locally have been a huge turnoff.

It’s just my take, but I’m a very opinionated person that dislikes Austin,UT, cycling and progressive politics. I’m an unfair source.

Oh yeah that brings me to another (and probably biggest) gripe with the Polar. Run under any kind of bridge, trees, etc and the pace just goes haywire.

When running with BnG a few weekends ago my pace during each lap (mile) was all over the place (while his Garmin was steady), but we always ended up about the same at the end of the mile. I like to set pace zones prior to a run and be alerted by vibration if I get outside the range. This is virtually impossible if any shade, trees, etc are in play. Shittay!

Yep. But I’d bet your HR was more on par than his?

Can’t be the best at everything I guess.

Just finished my first half (austin half marathon) in 2:05, which is ok I suppose. I didn’t really train other than running a 10k last weekend

Congrats on pushing yourself and not putting off the half despite being last minute decision.

And 2:05 with no specific training for that distance is solid.

I gotta take the week off

I did my first ever hike and bit off more than I could chew.

Did the chicot loop:

12 miles then camp

Wake up

Then another 7 to get back to the car.

My calves feel tighter than I’ve ever felt them. Alternating icy hot/ibuprofen and foam roller. Any other advice I’m willing to take

Good morning, everyone,

I'm a long time lurker but after following this thread jumped in the TD Strava group. As a beginning runner , who sucks, this thread has been a perfect mix of technique, motivation, and candid feedback.

I probably won't post much but here but wanted to say thanks.

Next event --> Woodlands Half
Big event-> Houston Marathon 2020 training starts in August.

Glad to see another Texan!

Welcome to the group.

9 mile trail run today. Pretty brutal but was happy with effort. I wanted to push another 3 but I was out of energy and got going later than intended.

Frick I’m hurting pretty bad from that trail run today. It was only 9 miles but I feel like I did a full 13-15.

Not boding well for a half in 3 weeks.

Like joints hurting or muscles hurting?

I wish I could do trails, they looks so awesome. My joints just don’t hold up to it at all though.

Yesterday’s humidity in Baton Rouge got the better of me. Did 14.5 (2 mile WU at 7:30, then 4x 2mile@6:45, 1mile@8:00, finish with a 1/2 mile@6:45). HR was a little high, but made sure to spend rest of the day recovering! I much prefer that 40-50 degree range!
