Woke up feeling good. Attempted to go for 3 miles in 25 minutes.
Week 7 Day 2 Complete
25 min run
8:33/mi 1
8:38/mi 2
7:49/ .94
2.94 in 25:00
Came up just short, ran out of gas way faster than I imagined on the final 2 minute sprint

That’s pretty good. I love those days where I have a ton of energy and feel fresh for a run....today was not one of those days

Conflicted. My plan calls for speed miles today but my legs are still trashed.
Next week is a recovery week so do I suffer or just take extended recovery? I do know it probably won’t be a quality workout with the wind like it is but I also don’t want to be a bitch.

You’ll probably be happier with life with recovery miles! Yesterday was great going slow lol

take the rest. our fitness and health isn't a 0 sum game. anything you rest off can be reachieved and despite what YOU think, you've been killing it lately.
got 5 in the pouring rain in vegas today with a fellow conference mate. i don't do a lot of road runs with other peoples, but it always makes me push a bit harder than i would have otherwise.
went pretty balls out to sprint a segment in front of the Bellagio fountains and got 105th.... out of 14,000.

I've been "resting" all week due to this stupid cold/coughing mess. Gotta love people that go to work and hack everywhere...
Seems to be winding down so hopefully I can get a few miles this weekend.

I took the rest. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just in my head and couldn’t break 6 because I had nothing left. I read some articles about every athlete having to abort a training session at some point and felt good about my decision.
Nothing lost and with the extra recovery, I’ll be faster even in the short term. Too much speed work is counterproductive anyway from what I’ve read.
I’ll get 60 this week and drop by 20 or so next week running strictly on time. I’ll have to move some stuff around to work my 10k in, in 2 weeks. That race will be a measuring stick for the half at the end of March.

I have been following this thread for a while. I have been a lifter all my life but my heart has recently been set on a goal in this foreign land.
While normally lifting three to four days a week and running 2-3 miles two or three times a week for the past two years or so (which has been most running I have ever done in my life, before this phase I didn't run.)
I attended a happy's run and ran a 5k in 22:50, while tired I don't believe I was actually racing it but it was the fastest 5k I've ever ran.
I want to break a 20 min 5k.
For the past four weeks I have increased my mileage from 10 to almost 25 miles (as of this week after my saturday long run).
I have pretty much stopped all lifting (except some pullups and pushups and some core stuff just at home) and now am running 5 days a week or 6 days week depending on how my body feels.
How do I achieve this goal? Oh btw I'm mid to late twenties.

You can still lift on your off days. As a matter of fact, I think it’ll help you achieve your goal of breaking 20.
A fit young man like yourself will most likely break 20 on the miles increase alone. Just keep building the base for a few months and then you can combine your lifting and a speed session to increase overall speed over a longer distance.
Build the base, break 20 and then let’s talk about getting you below 18.

You don’t have to stop lifting. I lift more than I run these days.
Just I do a lot of cardio while lifting as well (Crossfit).
You should be able to break 20 pretty easy with more speed work and more races.

I have no idea what I was doing this morning
Freezing rain so decided to run inside. Can’t trust the pace or distances that my watch said on inside track so pretty much just went by feel.
Oh well hopefully tomorrow will go well!

That sounds sensual. Looks like you're right on the edge of making a breakthrough. Great race, great time, great place!
