All in good time friend. I'm about to wear the hell out of these Razors and hop on the Epic React as my next daily I think.

4% will be for that epic marathon I finally do. But it has to be a big one. Maybe the biggest? Cryptic right?

Upvote! I love a good progression run. Got one on for a workout on Tuesday. Thursday's workout is a real kick in the balls though, 5x1 mile @ speed pace. It's going to be awful.

Took a stab at the Rock and Roll 10k yesterday. Was a bit nervous since I haven't done any long runs in months even though I am cross training with weights and speed work 5 days a week. Finished right about 59 Which is 10 minutes faster than my last 10k in March. I would like to get into the low 50's for the CCC so I still have some work left to do. Have another 25 pounds I can take off which will help and the CCC is much more 10k friendly. The rock and roll had no clocks on the course for the 10k and the finish line was hidden so by the time you see it and you are ready to do a final push its too late and the race is over. I understand the 10k is not the main race so its understandable. Any suggestions should I just keep pushing speed work?

Do you run with your phone? If so, download the Strava app. Start a run on the app and it uses your location. It will help you manage your pace and know how far you have run....
Or if you want to spend money on a Garmin watch, they are awesome for running.

Good job, man. I’d definitely add a long run weekly if you can.

i have been running with an apple watch but it really screwed me yesterday. it ended up a half mile short so all my pace alerts were completely wrong. i’ve used it a bunch on the lake and it’s always been fine but apparently the gps is really lacking in cities. I have a garmin which i will switch to. The only reason i use the apple is it allows me to get rid of the phone.

Both 5 days a week? If so, knock the "speed work" down to one day a week. It's not improving your weight training and is probably risking you for over training. If your a novice runner you probably shouldn't be doing any speed work at all yet.

Every pound will shave 2 seconds per mile off.

@ HB yes he needs to run more LOL
@TR Long run will be a necessity later but he's go no base so it'll be an injury hazard.

What I would suggest for you, since you've no base and very short time until the CCC, is run 15-20 minutes 5 days a week and lose the extra weight.

That alone will get you sniffing 50 minutes if you're a reasonably healthy person otherwise.

You don't need any speed work, or long runs, or hills yet, you need miles. When you feel good, try to go a little longer when you feel bad, run a little less.

Good luck, I'm rooting for you.

So i got to go out to Red Rock Canyon in Vegas and run.

Was a bad start to the day. I specifically flew out to Vegas at 6 in the morning so i could go get a car and get a couple of hours out there. then get to the hotel and shower before my conference started at 2.

Instead, i sat on the tarmac in Dallas for 2 hours. Still got here with enough time to go do a run, but abbreviated. Go to Red Rock and it's closed. Do a Strava Search to find another couple of segments and head there a couple of miles away.

Freaking breathtaking place. I got a bit winded on the initial ascent but settled down and had a great run. the only sucky thing about it was i ran out of time before energy. I was good for another hour. Only got 6 miles in, but felt very blessed to take in God's creation for that hour.

another thing i was ecstatic about was the performance of the rock plate in my cascadias and the cushion. if i had been running that in some less rugged shoes it would have been painful.

to put a cap in the feather, i get to my hotel with an hour before my conference and they won't let me go into my room. i say i need to take a shower. i can either pay $50 extra a night to get checked in now, or pay $60 to take a shower at their spa. so i'm attending a conference in sweat, shorts, and my nasty cascadias

on the flip side.

no the work outs are broken up. I have an upper body day, a lower body day, a full body/body weight day and two full cardio days that have speed work built in. Additionally, i use the peloton 3 days a week to supplement non-cardio workout days.

Just FYI, Burt is one of, if not the most experienced and polished in the thread, so I'd defer to his advice above.

@ 3 - at least that'll give you an excuse to talk running to anyone who'll listen at the conference!
