How about PHB? PRs all over the place. Rough one too because of the direct east wind. Dude kicked some arse.
Fa shiggity! 20 mile track and treadmill runs paid off. Good stuff!

Roots and I have a problem. I literally have 7 pairs of shoes with less than 30 miles on them sitting in my closet upstairs. 1 that are my nasty mud trail shoes with about 200 miles.
Last pair I bought was my Cascadias in December. I’m holding off buying anything else till my Ghosts and New Balances fall apart.
I have some Skechers 600s in the closet to replace them for daily trainers. I like them but I don’t think they can take my Ghosts place. Kinda hoping for a sale on NB FF Beacons around that time.

You don’t say? Some may see a problem, I see an opportunity. By golly, there are 2 slots left to fill!... not pictured are my Salomon Sense Ride with exactly zero miles on them.

I’ll put that to shame when my wife isn’t around to catch me putting them all out for a picture.
Freaking amateur.

Welp, I reluctantly made an appointment with an Ortho in a few weeks. Posted a pic pages back of my torn Vastus Lateralis muscle that I've had for years and now I've got some pretty bad knee pain during/after running. May even be some swelling going on, although I'm trying not to see it.
It's basically the biggest tendon tendon of the Quadriceps and helps to stabilize the knee. I have a feeling my knee is getting roughed up pretty good with it being unattached at the patella.
I know I'm not going to like what he says, but my thinking is to get this repaired/treated now before it causes other issues (if it hasn't already). Can't afford to be hobbled the rest of my life. Holding out hope that maybe a custom Orthotic can perhaps hold the knee in place during activity. If not I guess it may need to be cut on.
That said, I'm not going to shut it down or anything until I see him. Maybe just rest more often than I have been lately, unless it becomes unbearable.

One of my mates just had to finally call a doctor for a foot injury. He ignored it for 3 months just hoping to get over it, but can’t avoid it any more.
Probably one of the hardest thing about it’s is being told our addiction has to be put on hold.
Thoughts and prayers buddy. Better to get it fixed and be able to run into our 50s and 60s than have to drop it forever and do something lame like cycling.

Thanks everybody! I’m finally coming out of my post-race day cave to respond. Need to say how much I really appreciate this group. This group lacks any element of competitiveness. All of the support and information sharing goes a long way. I truly enjoy watching you all hit your goals along the way. Burt, you crushed that 8k yesterday, congrats man!
A little race recap:
During training, I had set a top end goal of 3:30 and lower end goal of 3:40. A few weeks out I felt I was ready to push that 3:30 mark. But checking the weather during race week and looking at the course, I had to accept the conditions probably weren’t going to allow me to hit my top end goal. The back half was all due NE, straight into a 15 mph NE wind. That wind really ground me down, but I felt like my training gave me the legs to finish as strong as I could. I left that course knowing I didn’t have another ounce to give, which is a good feeling. A guy I know who ran 3:09 in November to qualify for Boston finished at 3:27 yesterday, so I used that to feel even better about my time
Finishing time was 3:38:42. That put me top 15% of finishers and second in age group. Even though it’s not a huge race, I never thought I would get an age group award at a marathon of any size. So that was really cool for me. Overall, left really happy with the experience. Thanks again everybody - let’s keep on grinding

Awesome man, was waiting for this. I’m fascinated by the Marathon and appreciate any first hand accounts.
Fueling? How often did you fuel?
What’s your take on the mile 20 wall? Being this was your 3rd, did you have any such thing in any of your races?
What’s next? LOL!

Man, hope the doctor’s visit goes well and you get back to feeling healthy as soon as possible.
So, I ate 500 calories during the race. 5 Maurten gels, one every 4 miles or so. I also took 4 endurolyte capsules to replenish electrolytes - 2 at maybe 8 and 18. There were sub freezing temps for a lot of the race so I didn’t have to worry too much about losing salt. Only drank water and drank about every 3-4 miles. I felt pretty strong nutrition-wise and didnt really have too many problems with cramping etc. during the race.
The 20 mile wall is real (really start feeling it around 18), and I think that last 10k will be painful no matter what if you’re pushing your pace at all. That being said, I think the bigger aerobic base you can build in training the better able you’ll be to push through. You’ll be better able to burn fat and fewer carbs and also stave off muscle damage with better endurance in the legs. Setting the right pace is important too. You go out too hard and push too hard of a pace early, and you’re more likely to bonk later on. This is just my take from the 3 I’ve run.
I’m set to run the Little Rock half the first weekend in March. After that, next marathon will be Chicago in October. I’ll try to run some 5ks/10ks in spring and summer.

Amateur hour over here.
ETA: the only pair of shoes I spent more than $100 in that image was NB 1080s. The Ghosts were $70. Every other shoe was $50 or less.

Ha! Noice.
Would love it if your wife would bust in the room while you were laying those out and taking a picture. Yeah, we're a tad bit weird. So what?

I’m about to be in Vegas by myself for a week. My wife is more worried about me buying shoes there than she is the other frivolities I could engage in there.

Got two pair in the garage that I've retired too. The 6s and the hateful 1500v4 that only have 70 miles on them. (Waiting to recycle them)
All of these get some action either in the gym or on the road.
