4 easy miles this morning.

Then hit the gym this afternoon. First time in years. Squats. Bench. Deadlifts. Pull ups. Pull downs. Dips. Triceps push downs.

I’m dead.

Got in my last workout till race day, yesterday. Nothing but easy miles for the most part here on out.
.5 WU, 5 HMGP, .5 CD
Planning to negative split something similar to the below. Quicker if it's there around mile 8. I've been running my pace miles sub 8:00. We shall see. Must.not.start.out.too.fast.
Way too early weather report shows the rain may move through Saturday now and the temps look ideal and sunny. 10mph wind.

1 ==> 8:06 8:06
2 ==> 16:11 8:06
3 ==> 24:17 8:06
4 ==> 32:22 8:06
5 ==> 40:28 8:06
6 ==> 48:33 8:06
7 ==> 56:29 7:56
8 ==> 1:04:16 7:46
9 ==> 1:12:02 7:46
10 ==> 1:19:49 7:46
11 ==> 1:27:35 7:46
12 ==> 1:35:21 7:46
13 ==> 1:43:08 7:46
13.11 ==> 1:44:00 7:56

You got this!

I felt much better today, but I also ran on the treadmill so not sure how I would have fared outside

1 more week of rest and I'm going to try and get out there again. Spending a lot of time in the pool and on the bike the last 4 weeks. I got my official corral email for the Houston Marathon yesterday . Think I'm still going to go to packet pickup even though I'm not going to race. Just to get the swag .

Hoping I didn't lose much run fitness, because I certainly got back on the right track for the bike and swim pretty quickly. Could be a good sign for my 70.3 in April.

I frickin' hate the headwinds, maaaaaan. I'm sure it pales in comparison to what y'all deal with up there but damn it sucks. Anything over 10 mph and my effort noticeably increases/HR, etc.

Last night was the first time I haven't had to run in pounding winds since I can't even remember. I do most of my runs by the river. Most days during the winter I'm running in at least 10-15 mph winds. So sick of the wind.

The last two months have been bad for wind. Yesterday was amazing. Today, back to the same shite. Thank god it’s a gym day.

Hopeful for a decent run Sunday at least!

New 4% colorway, at least new to me. Have 3 left in my size also on Fleet Feet, haha. Maybe next year.

It is a fine looking shoe indeed.

I posted a link to the spreadsheet a week ago or so. Looking at this snippet I took from a section of it, it claims that performance is not affected at temps below 60. I know 50 is ideal. Any of you cold weather boys have an opinion on that? I was really looking for a section that takes wind into account.

Wind affects performance by several seconds a mile. Cold has no effect up to a point.

Personally, my zone is the low 40’s and calm.

The last half I did was wind chill 13 and couldn’t care less but for the wind part of it.

Wind kills me. Wind and cold suck especially. It takes it being in the low 40s for me to even consider pants and it has to get into the 30s before I even think it would affect my run.

My happy place is 35-45 and 0 wind. I get that pretty well from late January till March in my neck of the woods. If you look at Texas trail races 80% of them are Jan to April.

Yeah early forecast for next Sun has race start at 40F, clear but 10 mph NWNEWENWS winds. A ilittle chilly but otherwise ideal, sans the winds. Hoping for that wind forecast to change. Not too much to break it up around the LSU Lakes.

At lesst I don’t have to worry about being out front like some of y’all. Find me some yoga pants to draft behind!

Not that I know much about negative splits, but I always thought the most ideal way to run is to maintain a steady pace throughout. A 8:06 to 7:46 pace is pretty drastic IMO.
If you think you're looking to run about just sub 8:00 and are capable of negative splits (I am not, or have never done it) I'd try to maintain right at 8, then try to drop to say 7:50 or so.

I had heard one time the ideal marathon temp is 42. I can agree with this. I do not do well with any warm temps and I would much prefer anything 50 or below.
If I had the choice to run at 60 or 30, I would choose 30.

That’s probably what’ll end up happening. I’ll
most likely set my watch to vibrate outside of about 7:45-8:03. That’s what’s been working in training.
