New to the board

I’m 39 and have not worked out consistently since high school. Was starting to get pretty fat. I’m 5’8 and was about 198.

Recently I joined a gym and started working out at lunch, and I’m hooked. I’m experiencing “newbie gains” which I’d never heard of before, and it’s pretty awesome.

After losing about 25 pounds of fat over the last 3-4 months, my weight has stabilized as I’m starting to gain muscle. I’m down to about 175 and still slowly losing fat.

I know things will get tougher once I hit a plateau, but it’s fun while it lasts! No question, just sharing/bragging.

Very similar story here. Keep up the work. Even with less visual results it’s extremely rewarding and beneficial.

Congrats, while the gains may slow down it’s possible that staying consistent will make you feel like you’re in the best shape of your life at 40, 45, maybe even 50 years old.

I started in December - I’m loving this new hobby. I’ve lost about 10 lbs but the muscle gains have been fun - I got this wicked looking vein in my left bicep which my wife loves hearing about.

I’m the same weight I was a few years ago but down an inch in my waist. Lifting has been a blast but it also reignited an interest in running and yoga. I will lift about 3 or 4 times a week, run 2 or 3 times a week and go to yoga once.

Nice job! I'm also 39 and 5'8.

I made the decision about a year ago that my goal was to get under 10% body fat and have that real lean/muscular physique.

It's diet at this point and what will help you push through that inevitable plateau if you end up wanting to go further. End of the day keep the consistency that you have and you'll always be better for it. Doing what I'm doing is not for everyone and it requires sacrifices that not everyone is interested in doing. And that's ok.

I'm currently 157lbs and not quite there yet. But it's coming and it's fun to make a goal and achieve it. You're spot on.

I’m 5’9.5” and was down to 142 lbs from 183 and STILL didn’t have shredded abs. I said screw it and started gaining.

Holy shite.

My 15 year old son weighs 140 pounds and he is ripped.

He never got a beer belly though.

I'll have to see, but I don't think I want to get that light. I don't need abs that bad! I'd rather be a lean 170 with some decent upper body mass. Like the character from American Beauty said, "I just wanna look good naked."
