Looking for intermittent fasting advice

Trying to get some real advice, I’m looking to drop about 40 lbs. Does it slow down your metabolism in the long run? Any recommendations on a program to use? I’m pretty new to the whole health and fitness deal so I appreciate any advice.

Short answer yes. Multiple threads with a ton of good information already on here.

It’s not like we’re all magicians here.
If you like eating big meals and losing weight then it’s for you.

Will drinking beer after 8 on weekends ruin all benefits of IF during the week?

If you drink within your 8 hour feeding window and don’t completely binge on the weekends then it’s fine.

Sorry meant to ask if drinking outside of my window will mess up my results if I only drink outside of the window on Friday and Saturday night

If you drink a few outside of your window on weekends it’s fine.
If you’re binging after you’ve already eaten your calories for the day it’s going to slow any progress you made during the week I think that’s self explanatory.
Fasting is not a flip of the switch it’s a lifestyle.

Just keep in mind that if you're looking to enter ketosis, your body will work on removing the alcohol before the fat, so it will slow your progress down.

Some people phrase it as time restricted window. I watched a video where a doctor said that rat trials showed that limiting them to a 9 hour window five days a week was still enough to reap the benefits and it is likely that it carries to humans but is still being studied.
Biggest tip is one people have overlooked. You cannot have black coffee or BCAA before your eating window. Those start the ramped up metabolic process, end your fast, and shift your eating time frame.

Somebody's been listening to Dr Rhonda Patrick

That’s what I was thinking too
Heard her on a Joe Rogan podcast a while back and it was great

Sometimes Dr Patrick spouts off unsubstantiated, anectodal findings w no backing
i mean, how crazy do you want to get. You could also not eat for days if ya wanted.
its a 0 calories drink. doable outweighs "optimal" here

While I agree about the BCAA’s, everything I’ve ever seen/read has said that plain back coffee is fine to drink during the fasting period.

If you train early and continue your fast BCAAs are a must.
Zero calories is zero calories.

I was wondering if taking BCAA will mess up my fasting completely

For fat loss IF is nothing more than an easy way to restrict calories. Don't worry about if bcaa's break the fast, take the. If you want no matter the time.
Having coffee and bcaa's do break the fast but don't matter when it comes to fat loss in the long run. Just hit your macros and use IF as a tool.
As far as the beer goes, it's gonna set you back big time as it's a shite ton of Cal's. Learn to do without and have fun without alcohol or learn to drink other things.

This is why I drink scotch & bourbon straight, and have actually acquired the taste. Mr Johnnie is about 100 calories/shot & Four Roses is around 120 calories/shot. Just factor in your calories, and in my experience, you’ll be fine.

My understanding was that it's caffeine and the body processing the caffeine caused the fast to end. I'm not a scientist
Posted on 6/25/18 at 12:30 pm to Tigers0891
what exactly about the fast is ending? if its zero calories your body is still using fat stores as energy. Thats why we said she is right when talking about health benefits, not the body comp changes.
