I’ve hit that wall where it’s a chore to go work out each day. My diet held together for the holidays but I haven’t done any serious lifting since the week after Thanksgiving.

I have my 42nd birthday on Sunday. I have never worked out to impress women but always bashfully accepted the compliments. I’m married with kids so that’s not really a motivator.

Whats your fire to keep grinding?

I was never good at consistently working out until I went through a bunch of shitty life stuff. Exercising kept me sane and moving forward. Without it I deteriorate mentally so that has become a major intrinsic motivator and has changed my life.

Age. I like being in much better shape than people my age. I see older people who do a helluva lot because they took care of themselves. The slugs do less and less as their bodies are capable of less.

I’m addicted to iron. Like, I will die under a barbell. My motivation is that I want to be a beast until my body breaks.

We all hit that at points.

1. It is OK to take a break, you have been on one long enough now though.

2. Change up your program and set a different goal. Lots of different templates out there.

I've stopped lifting for the year. I've never been flexible enough to feel comfortable doing dead lifts so I know I needed to take drastic measures for my flexibility.

I've been doing hot yoga four times a week for the past 3 months and it has changed my life. At 44, I've maintained my strength but I'm a lot more flexible and relaxed. My wife and I paid for a year so I might go back to lifting after the year is up.

The best part is that I have no back pain anymore. I herniated a disc at 32. Squats had definitely improved my pain but yoga has completed the healing process it seems.

Make sure it is Hot Yoga if you want to try it out.

Shitty stuff in life was my reason to start as well. I needed a place to drain my anger. Over time that particular fire has dwindled.

As of now my youngest is 3. I’ll be 58 when he graduates high school. He has been my most recent motivator to see his best days ahead as his father. As I look around and see so many obese and unhealthy people I think I have it made where I am now.

Thanks for the help everyone. It’s nice to know this “bleh” happens to others. May be just what I needed, knowing it will pass.

Cork: My house is a stones throw from the beach. You saying take a vacation?

Darth: You coming to Reggae Riseup in St Pete this Spring? I’ll buy you some beers if you do.

Do it for health. Do it to look (not touch) at other women. Do it for your kids. Do it to listen to music.

I do it for my kids, I hope they see what I do and follow. My 8 yr old did a mile run with me this morning and as I was setting up and doing my circuit, he tells me he wants to do one to.
seeing him drag a weighted sled until he cant anymore then try again makes me push on.

I have old shirtless pics of me that I take a look at every once and a while. Disgusting, flabby body.

Huge difference from where I'm at now, and never want to go back to that.

I do it for myself. I honestly have a phobia for ever becoming fat. I don’t see how those people enjoy life. Seems miserable to be waddling around and sweating buckets when walking 10 feet
