Chondromalacia patella - cartilage / soft tissue damage under knee cap. Overuse!

Well, Dr says stem cell treatment is best way to go.

Thoughts / experience shared would be appreciated?

Efficacy
Cost
Pain involved
Recovery
Or anything else pls

I think a lot of people are doing the knees over toes stuff to strengthen the knee. Maybe combine that with stem cells. But I don’t have any experience.

Highly recommend getting a slant board and start doing KoT program. I have enjoyed it and my knees (ACL/LCL/meniscus tears over time) are stronger than ever. Do tibialis training too.

Broyles in BR did stem cells for my wife’s condition similar to yours. Worked well but it’s a long process.

Ask your MD what research are they following with the stem cell injections. From what I’ve looked into the chances of them beneficial are very low. Have you attend PT for your knee? Did they have you actually load up a squat, deadlift, etc? Have you tried elevating your heels when performing squats. Ever heard of a Spanish squat?

Maybe rest the knee for a couple of weeks and re-evaluate. It’s typically more of a runner issue than a heavy squatter issue.

Your doc recommended stem cells. Is he marketing platelet rich plasma injections as “stem cells”? I bet I could get people to sing the praises of “stem cells” at an equal rate by giving a sham injection, and telling people to rest and ice it for a week or so, and then easing into a PT program.

ETA: talking about bone/cartilage. Tendon issues respond better to prp
