Let's say I'm taking creatine daily for months. If I were to stop taking it for a half marathon, how much weight would I lose and how long before the race should I stop? I'm 5'10" 190 lbs.

That's not how this works

I would say the opposite. It almost makes me feel bloated.

I thought you lost water weight when you stopped taking creatine.

Any water weight you hold from using creatine will be inside the muscle where you want it. It’s not water between muscle/fat and the skin.

Cool. Wasn’t sure if I could just stop taking it and drop a quick 5 lbs for my race.

you may lose a couple, but its going to make your performance worse rather than improve it.

Creatine. I hear some say you should cycle it and others say its not necessary to cycle. Thoughts?

there is absolutely no evidence that you should cycle it. in 30+ years of it being studied...they have found none

My creatine should arrive today. My son was about out (and I also wanted to be able to take it to work with me, so I could do a "load" phase with multiple doses a day), so I ordered my own.

Pretty excited to try it out and see what performance benefits I get from it. I've been on pretty much the same 5x5 routine using the same weight amounts for a while now, so I should be able to notice a change as it occurs.

Turn 50 in a couple of weeks, and I'm pretty stoked on taking my fitness to the next level in this phase of life.

What are the opinions here about the week load vs longer load over 3-4 weeks? A bit worried about the potential GI problems (and somewhat less the water weight) during a load.

I'm pretty sure this was debunked years ago, and most people don't do it anymore. Am I wrong here?

not really....if you are worried about reaching peak serum levels as fast as possible, do the load...if you are looking long term and not worried about it, dont do the load. will take about 4-6 weeks to reach peak serum levels

if you are worried about GI distress...dont load.

'loading' is what causes stomach issues especially if using monohydrate. 20 grams a day for 5 days is not going to provide any benefits over using 5 grams a day for 20 days. Also, it is estimated that one in four people are non responders to creatine as far as muscle building goes though it does provide other benefits. Just buy a high quality creatine like creapure and avoid the shite that is manufactured in China.

this

all of this

also it is beleived non responders on the muscle building side do still see mental benefits

and ftr i am like John Wellborn of power athlete...i believe every human or animal on earth should be taking creatine. my 7 year old and 10 year old take it. only reason my oldest doesnt right this second is because he cant be trusted to hydrate properly and in record heat...had to remove it for football, he will be back on in a month or so.

trying to get my 60 year old mother in law on it, wife is a lost cause for now. hell i beleive dogs should be on it. if it has muscle and a vertebra it should be taking creatine.

That's a pretty strong statement.

What about those with high blood pressure? My buddy is about to start, and I've sent him this thread, but he does have high blood pressure, but is taking meds for it.

One of the professional Enduro/Downhill mountain bike coaches I follow says basically the same thing. Same mantra as always, "More studies on its safety than any other. Super cheap. Super effective. It's a no brainer."

When he also mentioned that it's showing promise in at least partially protecting from CTE/concussion with head hits (a huge issue for gravity cyclists), I put my 14-year-old son on it, as he's already had his "bell rung" a few times over the years.

Now it's my turn. I'm not too worried about GI distress, and I would like to see the benefits ASAP... so I'll probably load, unless I start shitting my brains out. I did get a product that uses Creapure as well.

i would tell him to start low and monitor while also starting nattokinaseb at 6 caps a day to make sure he doesnt have a stroke and to help with overall heart health.

i would start the nattokinase at 1 cap morning, 1 at night along with 2g of creatine to start with. for a month, monitoring BP daily.

if no issues, bump the nattokinase to 4/day & the creatine to 4 and monitor for a month. then bump to 6 and 5g and monitor. any issues, back off.

is he lifting 2x per week progressively and getting 10k steps in? if not start. say with diet, caloric deficit and prioritizing protein to 1g/lbs of bw.

pretty much proven to be safest supplement in history with 30 years of data and studies.

showing lots of promise on cte and concussions and long term brain health especially when it comes to the older generation and dementia.
